I'm a straight guy and had a wierd question. I don't frequent gay forums, but knew there was one here. I was watching the movie "300" with my GF and I swear I wish I had a hose to spray her down. :rotfl2: I liked the movie (not for the same reasons lol) but I did notice they had a few homophobic insults.

I was thinking about it and had to laugh a little when I thought of a gay man's perspective on the movie. "Oh my god, that is the most offensive thing I have ever seen". "How can they make crap like that". But also "I will have to hold my nose when I buy it when it comes out on dvd!"

I'm not trying to be offensive or anything (so please don't bite my head off). I just thought it was kind of humorous.

I watched 300 on DVD and can understand your GF's reaction. Men who are built like that are few, and it's definitely rare to see that many of them in one place. I would love to have been at the casting call for this film. :worship:

I enjoyed the movie, not only for the obvious eye candy, but also for the historic aspect. I'm currently watching Last Stand of The 300 which was recently shown on the History channel. I highly recommend it.

You say that you are wondering about any mixed feelings that gay men might have due to 'homophobic insults' in the movie. Personally, I don't even remember these insults. I suspect there are a couple reasons for this (not counting that the memory is the first to go when you get older). First would be that some gay men have developed such a thick skin that some things go unnoticed because we've learned to tune them out. The other would be that any such comments were made in the historical context of the film. Knowing that there were times and places in history where such beliefs were a fact of life, it's easy to lose them in the greater storyline. I don't know if that makes sense. It's difficult to put it into words.

Well, I thought when seeing it, why did they have to make the villian such a flamer? Or maybe he was just a very effeminate metrosexual.

Didn't see the film but I'm thinkin' any homophobia expressed is much more an artifact of our cultural lens rather than true to the times. Spartans were Greeks too, after all.
