Today is the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley.
IN memphis today they are having a HUGE celebration to honour him.

It's pretty cool how someone who's been dead for 30 years can still have such an effect on society.

I grew up listening to Elvis because of my dad, I would always watch Elvis movies with him when i was little and I loved them.

I think Elvis was my first crush!!
(1950s Elvis, not 1970s Elvis hehe)

Anyways, how (if at all) has Elvis affected your life?
This is a thread just to talk about Elvis!

Love him? hate him? Don't care? post your opinions here.

here's a timeline I found of Elvis' last few months;

April 1-5, 1977
Elvis is hospitalized in Memphis and tour shows scheduled for March 31-April 3 are canceled.

April 21- May 31/June 1-2, 1977
Elvis tours in concert.

June 17-26, 1977
Elvis tours in concert. Shows on June 19, 20, and 21 are recorded by RCA for an upcoming live album and are videotaped for an upcoming CBS-TV television special. (Footage from the show on the 20th is not used in the special.) The special will be called Elvis in Concert. It will first air on October 3 after Elvis’ death in August. The camera gives a shocking picture of Elvis’ poor health in his final days, but his voice is strong.

June 26, 1977
A concert at Indianapolis, Indiana’s Market Square Arena. This will turn out to be his very last concert performance.

June 27- August 15, 1977
Elvis relaxes in Memphis and prepares for the next leg of touring for 1977.

August 16, 1977
Shortly after midnight Elvis returns to Graceland from a late-night visit to the dentist. Through the early morning of the 16th he takes care of last minute tour details and relaxes with family and staff. He is to fly to Portland, Maine that night and do a show there on the 17th, then continue the scheduled tour. He retires to his master suite at Graceland around 7:00 AM to rest for his evening flight. By late morning, Elvis Presley is dead of heart failure. It is announced by mid-afternoon. In a matter of hours the shock registers around the world.

:sad1:

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im downloading all of his songs...I love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its also the birthday of the CD and Debian. 25 and 14 respectively.

I saw that it was 30 years on MSN. my brother like's Elvis. when I think Elvis the first thing that comes to my mind is...... Lilo and Stitch!

One of his old movies was on AMC today.
I watched a bit of it, but the storyline was completely ridiculous.

I'm from tennessee. Of course I love elvis. Its a prerequisite of living here. 1950s elvis WAS my first crush. Elvis was a beautiful man, in his younger days. I would've totally been an elvis fangirl.

My mom loved him. But I never really got into his music and I never really listen to him much.

But my mom said she was in kidergarten when he died and she said one of their teachers loved im so much, that when he died she went crazy and they ended up putting her in a hospital...

But if I hear one of his songs I'll know it's his. :D

(my hideous attempt at the elvis lip)

Caitlin,that is an AWESOME belt!
What a find!
He sure was a cutie in the 50s.
In the 70s,not so much.
And he played good music.
If I'd been alive back then,I would've definitely been a groupie.

he was a SERIOUS hottie in the 50s. way hotter than most of todays "heart throbs"
he kinda hit the wall in the 70s lol

i heard on the radio that in 1953 to see JOHNNY CASH AND ELVIS (two of my favourites) in concert together it was only $1.25  :headache: :scared1:
imagine how much those tickets would go for today!!!!!

Im listening to his songs right now. I was watching him in concert, and he went up to a girl and she kissed him on the lips and he said "What, do you wanna get serious?" and she said "yes".

I would've loved to see that show!

I love a lot of his music but I would never say that he changed my life.

However, I'm feeling faint at the mere idea of seeing a concert with him AND Johnny Cash.

I've never really cared for Elvis.

He hasn't impacted mine... or really my family's life. But at breakfast yesterday my mom told my friend and I that today would be the 30th anniversary of his death. She's the first person I heard it from.

My dad is a big elvis fan so I grew up on elvis. So I love elvis also.

Funny Elvis Story:
I went to Graceland when I was like 3 and I was walking around and escaped from my parents. I headed stright towards the steps that you can;t go on. So I went under the rope and I got about halfway up the steps before a security guard got me. lol

My mom likes him alot.

But I don't think she really liked that he died on her mother's birthday.

Strangely enough today (or yesterday) was the 25th anniversary of the C.D.
