I went to Wal-mart to get my favorite cheap pizza for dinner. Tostino's pizza's used to be $0.97. Well last night they were $1.25!!!!!!! That's about a 30% increase in less than a month. I usually don't really notice price increases in food but that one stood out to me.

There have been many increases in food prices over the last year. I hear high fuel prices blamed for much of it. It will be interesting to see if the food prices come back down along with gasoline prices. Somehow I doubt it.

I noticed last week that our local supermarket had raised prices 30-40% on almost all of our normal purchases.
I asked the cashier when did the prices go up and she repliedthe week before.

i've been buying the same exact items weekly for years, but in the past year, the cost has gone up from $150/week to $200/week - staples like milk, bread, fruits, veggies, meats - all have gone up considerably

plus it doesn't help when the item (example: Breyer's ice cream) "looks" the same, except it's not - used to contain 1/2 gallon of ice cream, but it's less than that now - but costs almost $7

Love that brand too, a great bargain at $.99, however this week they were 3/$5.00. I think with the economy, we're all feeling the pinch in one way or the other, forcing many back to the basics. :scared:

Oh no, are they doin' that again?

I remember when they did that with sugar, used to be 5 lb bags, then they made 4 lb bags at same price 'n they did it with coffee, used to be in lbs, then they started the 39 'n 11 oz cans. I forget when they did that, years ago.

Thanks for the heads up, I've had other things on my mind, I'll pay more attention at the store now.

The one item I've noticed most is canned peas. I only buy a certain brand, only one we'll eat and they've gone from 77 cents a can to $1.44. That's ridiculous! It still buy them, just not as much.

The chopped wal-nuts I've been buying for years have gone from $5.99 to $9.99!

Not only did they raise the price of the pizza they have also made them smaller. I'm going to have one now.

i notice it so much more with traditionaly 'cheap' foods.

the banquet frozen dinners used to never go for more than 89 cents each and you could get a good sale that lowered them into the 70 cent range, now the best price is around $1.19 and when they go for 99 cents people fill their carts. mac n cheese-a 'great' bargain around here is $1 per box, a few years ago i could get multiple boxes for a dollar.

even top ramen-the traditional bargain basement food has shot up. a year or so ago i could still get them on sale for 10 cents each-now a great sale is around 26 cents each and you better plan on getting there the first morning or the shelves will be empty (cashiers at our local grocery store and the super walmart nearest us have told me that they can't keep it on the shelves-whereas it used to be a fairly regular purchase for singles and esp the college crowd, more and more purchases by what are very apparant family shoppers and seniors are coming through the checkstands in huge numbers).

I hear you about the walnuts! I used to love snacking on them ,but they are too expensive now. I won't even buy them for baking this Christmas.

Before they started raising the prices they made the portions smaller, then oil kept going up so then they decided to raise the prices too. Hopefully with oil continuing to go down the prices in the store will be reflected pretty soon, it does take some time before it all trickles down though. The only thing I am worried about is OPEC has scheduled an emergency meeting for November 18, oil being cheaper is not good for them so they are going to mess with the supply and drive the price up again, I just have a feeling.

I'm in the process of raising all of our parts pricing by 16% at work, it's not fun but it needs to be done.

Everything's gone up, but dairy items have gone through the roof!!! Cheese, butter, milk, are all way up.

I just noticed a decrease in milk.

Yup a DECREASE!!!

I was shocked.

It went from 3.78 a gallon...to 3.56 a gallon.

Of course the rest of the food went up in price. :sad2:

Threads like this make me scratch my head when I read other threads that insist the "economy is hunky dory" - "nothing to worry about" - "doing better than ever" - etc.. :confused3

The only thing I can figure out is that the people who are not noticing any dramatic changes are not eating; buying gasoline for their cars; heating their homes; buying clothing to put on their backs; purchasing medications; going to the doctors; etc.. :confused3

Just food items alone are through the roof.. The same bag of apples I used to pay .99 to $1.19 for are now $5.99.. Evaporated milk that was .79 a can is now $1.29 a can.. Loaf of bread that was .99 is now $3.29 a loaf..

And don't even get me started on items other than food.. :sad2:
