30 days to go until we arrive at the fort!

We are still on track to leave on Wednesday May 30th, And should arrive late Friday night at the fort. Any input on checking in late Friday vs Saturday? When would I call and "request" (beg) for my spot? We have a 27 day reservation and want to stay in loop 600 by the campfire.

I would fax any requests about 5 days out as that seems to be when they assign sites. I would also arrive on your reservation date unless your paid in full so you wouldnt lose your reservation if you show up late. We are supposed to arrive about the same time for 12 days and trying for the 900 loop across from the Meadows trading post.Have a fun time..

10 days to go until we depart. I switched the reservation for a late Friday night arrival. Here is the following i have completed so far....

1 .oil, air, and plugs (gen) both coach and gen.
2. new stereo and speakers for coach.
3. changed batteries in electric scooters
4. changed 5 tubes in bicycles
5. fixed bike rack (sheered bolt)
6. converted bmx crusier to a beach crusier
7. distilled water in coach batteries.

I only have a few dozen things left to do and one more weekend to complete. PLease chime in on your pre-trip list and planning. I am going to skip the golf cart and try to use the bikes and scooters.

27 days, WOW. Lucky you. I thought we were special with 12. We will be in Florida for 5 weeks. Down the east coast, Keys, then up the west coast and on to FW. Have a wonderful time.

The fort has a great/flexible booking policy. We most likely will depart the fort before the 28 days Last year we had 11 nights and it was our first visit and we felt like we needed more time just to enjoy the fort....

Smog Test complete and pass today! I decided to get 6 new tires today for the rv (ouch) but got a good deal at Big O on 6 michelins. Last weekend before we hit the road. Final cleaning and start packing.....

Made it on schedule! 2100 miles east . We left Phoenix 3:00 pm on Wednesday and made the Fort by 4PM on Friday. Went shopping at the Publix by AK and loaded up for the upcoming weeks hopefully. We Just have the RV no car so we need the food to last. I brought my little patio fridge to help with food storage. We should have minimal trips to the trading post I hope. First Saturday looks to be nice Fort day, was raining yesterday.

As far as the drive I tried I-20 this time and do not recommend for the following reasons.

1. Louisiana 1-20 just as bad as driving on I-10
2. US49 was slow heading southeast back to Mobile.

I wanted to avoid the Baton Rouge traffic and try use a different route. Here is how the 3 days went

Wednesday Phoenix to Van Horn TX arrived 1:45AM 535 miles. Slept until 6:30 am at a Loves truck stop.

Thursday was long, I was hoping to gain time but lost time by traveling I20. My goal was to make Mobile and stay at the Meaher RV park but when we drove by the gate was closed so we kept driving and pushed through to the rest stop MM 27 in Florida. 1200 miles (ugh) 2:30 AM (MST).

Friday rain woke me @ 5:30 am so we got back on the road straight to Disney. Based on google we had 450 miles to go and went to the Winn Dixie grocery store on 192 off the 429. STAY AWAY! WAY OVERPRICED (expected) BUT NO SELECTION. We went to the Publix and it had what we needed. Arrived at 4:30 and set up camp.
