3 year old bumped his head and now is throwing up...should I be worried?

I will keep praying that he continues to improve.

thought I'd give another quick update. just back from the er with ds. we went to the peds at 2:30, and his dr. ended up sending us over to the hospital. they did another cat scan (normal again, phew), drew blood, and pumped him full of iv fluids. he threw up again while there (he just couldn't even keep small amounts of water down) so they gave him anti nausea drugs. we were very close to being admitted, but thankfully he kept a small amount of water and a popsicle down so we finally left at 9pm. lets just hope things will be better tomorrow!

Sounds so scary! I'm sorry you have to go through this and thanks for keeping us updated. I was worried about him.

I'm surprised he's still vomiting! That is concerning. Does he have any complaints other than being nauseous? Where was the injury on his head? Did they tell you that the vomiting should subside soon? Just seems kind of strange.

I'm keeping him in my thoughts and prayers.

:grouphug:

So sorry to hear about your little DS and that is still sick from his fall. Very encouraging to know the tests do not show any problems and he kept a little water and popsicle down. I can imagine how scary and emotionally draining it is for you. Know how it is when our babies are sick and the toll it takes on the caregiver. Meanwhile try to take care of yourself and get some rest. I'm sending lots of prayers that he feels better tomorrow, is up playing, being frisky 3yo and things start looking up for Mommie too ((hugs))! :flower3:
God Bless ^i^

I am so sorry he still isn't feeling his best.

Thanks for keeping us updated...sounds like he caught a bug.

Sounds like he has a stomach bug now too! Poor little dude!
I remember DS having surgery to remove a mole from his lower regions. Well he ended up really sick the following day. Everyone thought it was a bad reaction to the anethesia (sp?) because of his asthma. Turns out he caught a nasty virus on top of everything! He was really sick for a few days. It was a very unpleasant few days!
Praying that he just caught a bug on top of everything and he will feel better soon.

Poor kid :( Hope he is over the worst of it.

When my DD was admitted for her IV after the concussion the Dr said that dehydration can cause nausea, kind of a vicious cycle once it starts. Getting him hydrated might be all he needs. My DD was okay by the next day, they did keep her overnight but it was late when we got to the hospital.

I hope your little man will be feeling better very soon. You must be one tired and drained Mama.

yep, that was pretty much it. it isn't a bug, just dehydration on top of the consussion, not a bug.

he slept last night and is up now eating a popsicle. we're to keep him on clear fluids and maybe crackers and toast is he insists on eating. so far this is all he wants. will follow up with his ped today. hopefully today is a much better day!

thanks everyone for your support (on all counts). it really is helpful.

I am so happy to hear he is able to keep a popsicle down! Hope he is better today!

LOL, if I or anyone did that to my DH, they would get the strangest answers. He's THE MOST difficult person to wake up. I don't even try any more if he gets a phone call & he's napping.

Q: What's your name?
A: In the desk drawer.

Q: Where do you live?
A: Yes, I've finished that.

:sad2:  :rolleyes1 :headache:

LOL, sounds exactly like me!

OP, hope your little guy's doing better!!

I'm glad hes feeling better! Its not easy being a Mom.

dang, I just tried to push a little watered down juice on him. he's only had a little bit of water and a popsicle today, and I'm afraid he'll dehydrate again. he ended up taking 2 little sips, then threw up a bit...about a tblsp's worth. we leave for the ped in a half hour, so going to do that rather than head back to the er. still, looks like we might be heading that way. he asked for another popsicle, but then just looked at it.

I'd start pushing for a little more aggressive treatment - or at least some extensive explanation why the nausea isn't subsiding. This is day 3, right?

Hope the little guy does better today!!!

I just saw this thread. I hope your DS gets okay soon. I know you must be worried sick.

When our niece was 18 mo. she fell out of a high chair onto a really hard floor, ended up with a concusion. My SIL said about 2 weeks later she picked her up at her daycare and put her hand on the back of DN head and her head was soft & squishy. She panicked and went to her FIL (who is a neurosurgeon) he told her that was completely normal - I don't remember the reason why but he did say it was normal. Just to warn you if you notice this in a few weeks. DN was fine.

:grouphug: Poor kiddo... and poor Mom! Scary stuff this parenting business can be. Hope he's feeling better soon

:rotfl: I missed this the first time around. :confused3

We wake people all the time. If they aren't in a coma, we can wake them.

In all my years, one of the funniest things a patient ever said to me was when I finally got him awake despite the fact that he didn't want to be and he said, "I bet when you were a kid and people asked you what you wanted to be you said, 'I want to wake people up'"...he was pretty cranky because I kept waking him, lol. I'd be cranky, too if I was flippin sick and everyone kept waking me up. :)

...but I still tell that story to my patients sometimes. :)

Hope he will be feeling better soon! :) :) :)

When my sister was in elementary school, she got knocked in the head by a basketball. My parents took her to the ER and found out she had a concussion. Very, very scary!! :( :( :(

I'm surprised that the vomiting is still going on. What the heck could be causing it? :confused3 Poor baby. I know you must be so worried.

Hang in there. Update when you can.
