3 year old bumped his head and now is throwing up...should I be worried?

I hope this is true because Ed bonked his head tonight..Not really hard, but he is on comouden and I worry..I'll be waking him every hour to make sure he's sleeping.

Not the OP here, but I'm guessing one of them stayed home so they didn't have to get the other kids up.

yeah...He spent the first two month naming the wrong hospital..Now I'll ask him that just to tick him off and he rolls his eyes.

My oldest fell out of a wagon and hit her head, seemed fine until that night and started vomiting. I took her to the ER and they did the scans, it was a concussion. It wasn't that bad and I took her home but she was still vomiting. Ended up back at the hospital that night because she dehydrated. In hindsight I wouldn't have left the ER until she'd stopped vomiting.

I'm sure he'll be fine but glad he's at the ER getting checked out.

LOL, if I or anyone did that to my DH, they would get the strangest answers. He's THE MOST difficult person to wake up. I don't even try any more if he gets a phone call & he's napping.

dh just called. they did a catscan and ds is being really good. didn't cry or anything. just waiting on the results now. the waiting is awful!

interesting note. the dr. walked in and took a quick look at my son and asked if he was a preemie. dh said yes, 5 weeks early (he's a twin). she said she could tell from the shape of his head. I thought that was interesting. and curious...I never knew the shape of his head was somehow different.

My son, now 16, was 5 weeks early too. When he was born, the sections of his skull were overlapped and you could see them very clearly under his skin. His soft spot was huge and took a very long time to close up. And yes, you could tell by his head till he was 4 or 5 if you knew what to look for. It was shaped a little odd and kind of pointy on top. I assume this is what the doc noticed in your son as well.

I've taken mine in for less than 1 stitch - especially when the concern is internal injury rather than scarring. Better safe than sorry. I hope all turns out well - and OP, you don't have to feel obligated to update me.

yep, he has a concussion. thankfully the tests showed nothing else. thinking we should probably just skip playgroup today.

Don't you need to keep him from anything that might cause a second bump for a period of time, a few days or a week or something. The second hit is especially dangerous, I think. Yep, I wouldn't go to play group. If yours are anything like mine were, there was a better than average chance of a Tonka truck careening across the sandbox or a bonk on the head from another child.

I'm so glad you took him to the ER. The throwing up twice is a biggie.

Glad you have the results and it was only a slight concussion.

My nephew did something similar, had a concussion...they kept him overnight for observation. At one point they couldn't get him to wake up. He finally did and was fine.

I think letting him rest today would be a good idea.
