I need some mom advice. We are giving holiday presents to kids in a local shelter and I'm shopping for a 3 year old boy. What are 3 yo boys into? I only know a 3yo girl & i'd imagine it is different.
Any help would be appreciated :thumbsup2

My almost-3yr-old boy is in to anything with wheels, propellors, etc. I think it is pretty typical for this age to love vehicles/transportation. He has a wooden train set (i.e. Thomas) that gets tons of play. He has the Mack truck from Cars (and many of the diecast Cars as well) - he plays with them quite a bit as well. He also really likes musical instruments...but they can get pretty loud. Washable markers and stickers, safety scissors, play-doh - also big things around our house. Oh, and he's getting more in to building with legos/duplos and actually constructing things with them.

HTH!

My DS3 loves anything with wheels too! :moped: Trucks, airplanes, cars, contructions vehicles you name it! He is also very into play-doh. His preschool teacher told me that it's a great fine motor skill builder and that's what they've been focusing on this year. They have all kinds of cutters, rollers, shapes and funky colors out now!

MY ds is 2.5 and loves cars & trucks too, but he's a huge Bob the Builder and Wiggles Fan. Thomas the Tank Engine is a close third. He loves building things with mega blocks and legos too.

My nephew who is 3, Loves the Power Rangers, he plays with all of the action figures. He also love Go Diego Go.
But like other posts said you can't go wrong with cars and trucks, all boys love those.

For trucks that can take some serious abuse, I vote for Bruder or Battat. You can often get them at Marshall's or TJMaxx for a very nice price. They are medium-sized and very realistic-looking.

Power Rangers are the rage for my DS4 and all his little friends. Also the CARS cars.

As other posters have mentioned, anything with wheels are a hit!

I took a quick poll and Go Diego Go is a favorite with the little boy I watch sometimes(especially Baby Jagular, he wants a stuffed version)

Diego is a hit in my house, as is anything with wheels. If you want to stimulate the right side of the brain, my son loves his Doodle Pro.

My son is 3 1/2 and is into anything having to do with Pirates!
Can find some things at Target but to be honest, boys of this age are into almost anything...cars, action figures, sports..
You're doing a nice thing and I am sure he'll like whatever you choose for him!
Happy Holidays!

My brother always bought my DS good quality remote controlled vehicles. My son is 9yo now and believe it or not, they all still work! There was a Hummer, a tank, an aircraft carrier, and more recently smaller cars that are pretty cool. I vote for those. I also think it would be nice to include a DVD that he could watch many times over. What about a classic Disney DVD such as Toy Story? Very nice of you!

My DS is 3 here is what he is into: Spiderman and Friends (chunky action figures), anything Pirates, Imaginext Dinosaurs, CARS, big boy puzzles ( the ones with like 24 pieces), magna doodle and flip books.

I have found that the boys at our preschool have any thing "cars" and power ranger toys high on the list this year. They are also into fire trucks and legosand themed Lego sets are relly huge!!

My question however is if he lives in a shelter, what kind of storage space will he have?? Do they stay during the day or do they have to leave during the day and return at night. Our church group did a group project for a women/children shelter that they stayed at 24/7 but we also worked with a group that the families had to leave leave during the day and take everything with them. One thing we were told was to always include something for them to cuddle!!!

Now reading back I see it might be toys for the entire group to stay at the shetler. In that case, legog, tinker toys or any building set is perfect!!

Aquadoodle is a great toy. It's easy to store and reusable. Superheroes are a big hit as well. They make the larger action figures and the dress up sets as well. My oldest son is now 4.5 and he loved the Batman dress up set and still does! Cars and trucks are big fun too. Coloring books, maybe some disposable cameras for Mom and Dad too and a cheap photo album ($1 store?) so they can have some memories even if times are tough. I think it's great what you are doing. I am hoping to be organized enough next year to be able to do the same. princess:

my just turned 3 year old loved BOB the builder and anything relating to construction, building and tools.

also likes planes, tranes and automobiles

Target has a plastic thomas set that the trains and tracks store inside a building -- and it has a handle. about $20.

The old stand-bys also are well loved: matchbox style cars are small and boys love them.

He's still just excited to open a package!!
