Who's running? I have to get a 20 miler in today - so hopefully we'll hit the mid to upper 40's!

We'll be at OKW which appears to be walking distance to the start. I'm figuring that if we can walk to the start, I won't need to make that 4AM last bus requirement and may be able to catch a few extra minutes of sleep!

I'm not running, but I just wanted to say "good luck!"

I plan to run the Disney 1/2 marathon someday... I ran the Dublin Marathon last year (Oct 01) and I've decided I like the 1/2 better! :teeth:

Hmmmm....I don't know about walking from OKW. You might want to check it out when you arrive. The course map is NOT TO SCALE and it could be a lot farther than you think.

I've run it four times and the start doesn't appear to be anywhere close to OKW (or anything for that matter). It's like a mile walk from the Epcot parking lot.

Yeah, gotta get in a long run this weekend....and then maybe next weekend.

Good luck!

Thanks Major - I was going by the map. Will have to check it out once we arrive.

DS & I are running the half. Also staying at OKW. I'll second the not walking to the start comment. Everyone arrives at the EPCOT lot and then they have goups taken through some backstage areas of FW over to World Drive, this is done according to your corral assignment. It helps to keep the mayhem to a minimum during the form up for the start. I thought the same thing last year about not going to the EPCOT lot and walking from OKW to the start. It probably would have been a 30-45 minute walk to get to the start, the bus was faster and there where PortaJohns at the EPCOT lot :) Plus that is where you dropped off your after race clothing bundle. Good luck at the race!

My brother in law would like to run the marathon in Jan. 2004, and I would like to take the whole family (9 of us). I have looked and can't find if the date has been announced for the 2004 marathon. Anyone know when it is announced? Hopefully before February 2003, as I would need to make our ressies then for Jan. 04.

We are not runners, but DH's best friend is and will be doing the marathon. We feel it is our duty to be there in support of him;) ! We'll be there January 10-18, staying for the 1st 3 days at the Swan and the rest of the time at BCV. Can't wait!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DH and I are running marathon. Is anyone aware of child care options for children of Marathon participants ?? Would need caregiver in early a.m. on race morning.

Good luck to all of you who will be running. Please post a follow-up report. I hope to be there for 2004 if all goes well with the DC marathon this year.

Hoppy - I don't know of any group childcare or kids clubs onsite that are normally open that early. You might check with the Kindercare on property. I'm not sure what road it's on, but we pass it when we take the backroads from FW to DD Marketplace. Their phone number is 407-846-2027.

Your other option is in-room babysitting. I've never used them, but here are a few I found:

Fairy Godmothers (407) 969-9847 and toll free 877-611-4314
All About Kids 407-812-9300
ABC Mothers/Teachers/Grannies 407-857-7447

You might do a search or another post on the family board to get some recommendations.

Have Fun!

Did my 20 miler yesterday too. Now that the big runs are out of the way I just have to get nervous about finishing my first marathon. I'm also staying at OKW and was wondering about walking to the start. Guess I'll find out once I'm there and able to scope it out. Good luck to all who are running.

My best friend will be running his 5th DW Marathon. As with the first 4 will be there to cheer him on! To answer your question about walking to the start, NO! By the way the crow flyes it is not far but it is not a short or safe walk. Take the bus. Good luck and have a great run!

My DH is also running the marathon--this will be his second WDW marathon--he loves it! We're staying at the BCV, taking my SIL for her first WDW trip as well :)

The date for the 2004 marathon is 1/11. WDW hasn't announced it on their site, but they had info about it at either the NYC or Philly expo this year. (DH ran both--he's gone mad--two marathons in three weeks!)

Disney isn't providing any type of group childcare for racers. I would imagine you could get Kindercare to come to your room, but they'll cost you around $12 per hour. Participants are required to be at their corral by 4:00am, and depending on where you are staying it can take up to an hour to get there, so plan accordingly.
