3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

Hmm, that is really interesting about the RNRC line! Are they still doing it?

Last I heard they we not, but that was the busy period between Christmas and New Years so I don't know if they just stopped it for then because of the high crowds or not. From what I've heard, it was more of a test for the queue-less wait system that they are hoping to add to Dumbo when they move it in during the big Fantasyland refusbishment though and perhapd not permanent to RRC.

Hey everyone. Sorry for the lack up updates lately. I've been sick for the past week and haven't been up to it. Hopefully I should be able to start back up on the report pretty soon (maybe this weekend?)

 Thanks LL. I'm feeling a lot better than I have for about a week. Hopefully that means I'll be able to get working up a new update soon.

Sorry you haven't been feeling well. :( But we're all anxious for the rest of your report!

As Mom and I left Animation and headed towards Echo Lake, it was clear than the blue skies of the morning had been replaced by gray skies and light rain. :umbrella: Well, you knew with a title like “Wet Christmas” that the nicer weather wasn’t going to stick around forever.

50s1-600.jpg

Once we got to the 50s Prime Time Café, we found Buzz and Dad waiting for us. Apparently, you can’t check in there without having all of your party together. Once we did though, we were told there would be a little bit of a wait, so we headed into the waiting room.

50s2-600.jpg

Since the waiting area looks like a 50s living room, it was decorated for Christmas complete with retro-looking trees. I know Mom was hoping that the restaurant would have some 50s Christmas decorations, so she was thrilled that there were. Both she and Dad are really interested in these kinds of vintage/ retro things, so this (as well as the restaurant’s decorations in general) was right up their alley.

50s3-600.jpg

A closer look at some of the ornaments. As a fan of “I Love Lucy” for most of my life, I thought it was cool that Lucy got to be on the tree.

50s4-600.jpg

After a few minutes, our table was ready. Now, I’ll preface this by saying that the 50s Prime Time has never been one of my favorite restaurants. The décor and the TVs at the table playing clips from old shows are fun, but I’ve never been a real fan of the food or the server shenanigans (“Mom” telling you to eat all your vegetables, “Uncle Joe” making you stand in the corner for putting your elbows off the table, etc.). When we’ve eaten here before, most of the servers have been ok, but I’m always afraid we’ll get one that’s a little too in-your-face or annoying. This time around, we had a really good server. She didn’t pretend to be “Mom” or anything, but definitely treated you as part of the family. Best of all, she was able to be friendly and funny without being too much. The food was also a pretty pleasant surprise this time around. I had the Char-grilled chicken sandwich which was really a nice. It’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever had at Disney, but still pretty delicious. If memory serves, I think that most of the others had the chicken sandwich as well. I want to say somebody had the meatloaf too, but I can’t remember (why don’t I ever take notes about the food?) All in all, the meal I was most afraid I was going to dislike turned into a pleasant little lunch.

muppet1-600.jpg

After lunch, it was still sprinkling a bit, so we decided to get out of the rain for a bit by seeing MuppetVision 3D. Buzz is a huge Muppet fan, so this is almost always on our list of things to see. On the way in, who can resist checking out the Miss Piggy fountain?

muppet2-600.jpg

Inside the pre-show waiting room. There’s so many things to see in there.

muppet3-600.jpg

In case anyone wonders just how many satin evening gowns Miss Piggy owns, this is only a few of the trunks she had lying around.

After the always-fun pre-show, she made our way into the main theater. For the most part, the show itself went off fairly well. The only glitch was that the animatronic Sweedish Chef in the back of the theater wasn’t working right and through most of the show just stood there with his shotgun for no apparent reason. Didn’t spoil the show though.

muppet4-600.jpg

When we got out of the theater, to my surprise, the gray skies were gone and it looked more beautiful than it had before. Maybe this Christmas wouldn’t be so wet after all? I thought the blue sky looked great behind Miss Piggy’s billboard.

cars1-600.jpg

The line at the new Cars meet-and-greet looked fairly short and fast-moving, but then again after waiting 45 minutes for the UP characters, almost any character line would feel short and fast moving. The theming of the area was pretty nice, but I do have to admit that I kind of miss it being Al’s Toy Barn.

cars2-600.jpg

After about 10 minutes, I got to see Lightning and Mater. The don’t interact too much, but do seem to react with revs and honks when you talk to them (which most people didn’t seem to do).

cars3-600.jpg

The lighting made it had to get a good picture of the two of them, so individual shots worked better.

cars4-600.jpg

I really liked the way that this one turned out with the Radiator Springs wall in the background.

happinesshotel-600.jpg

After saying goodbye to the Cars, I went looking for the rest of the family who was checking out the shops and sights around MuppetVision. While exploring, I snapped a pic of the Happiness Hotel set in the Muppet Shop (remember this from The Great Muppet Caper?)

wonderfulshop1-600.jpg

Of course, at Christmastime, the main shopping attraction of the area is It’s A Wonderful Shop, the little Christmas store.

wonderfulshop2-600.jpg

Nearby, Santa looks down at the shop. I always thought he came down chimneys, not fire escapes.

wonderfulshop3-600.jpg

Decorated windows above the Christmas shop.

wonderfulshop4-600.jpg

And the most popular part of the shop (at least for us) the snowman outside. Seems like most of us always have to get pictures of him when we’re here- even if it isn’t Christmastime. While the rest of the family wanted to check out the Christmas shop a little more, I decided to check out the rest of the Streets of America and look for some Christmas decorations and maybe a character or two.

Next chapter: The return of the rain

Glad your lunch at the PTC went off better than you were expecting. That place has always been hit or miss for us.

More great pics! I really like the one of the hotel set from the Muppet Store :thumbsup2

I've always been really hesistant to eat at 50's Prime Time too. I just don't like all that interaction. :rotfl:

Thanks Dawn. Prime Time was definitely a pleasant surprise. I was happy with it.

Glad you like the photo in the Muppet store. That place is just so full of great touches and theming, but I thin the hotel set is my favorite.

I totally feel you. I was so glad we got a cool server. The family a cople of tables away had a doozy of a "cousin" serving them- making them wear bibs, stand in the corner, etc., and one poor girl had another server decorate her hair with dozens of straws and them parade her areond the restaurant. :scared: It's just the luck of the draw, I guess.

Glad you had a good time at PTC. We always enjoy it there. I like how they even decorated the restaurant for Christmas!

Love the billboard of Miss Piggy...paid for by the fund to keep Miss Piggy happy. :rotfl:

I was really glad that they did decorate it for Christmas. While we were planning, Mom kept asking if they decorate for the Holidays, and I just wasn't sure they did. It really made the lunch a little more special.

Enjoyed the update. The decorations at 50's PT looked really good. We ate there ywice in 2006 and it was good, again though we didn't have 'way out' servers. Though the 2nd time my DH had to wear an Ariel bib as he wouldn't eat his greens, but it wasn't 'too much' IFKWIM. She didn't make the whole restaurant aware of it!

Hmm... I don't think I would have enjoyed the meal quite as much if I was forced to wear a bib by the server, but if I can make it through getting dozens of clothes pins attatched to me like at Animal Kingdom in August, I think I would have survived.

streetsofamerica1-600.jpg

While Buzz, Mom and Dad were still checking out the Christmas store, I wandered around the Streets of America for a bit and checking out some of the Christmas decorations like this snowman one of the telephone booths.

streetsofamerica2-600.jpg

I thought it was cool that all the fire escapes were decorated in different styles.

streetsofamerica3-600.jpg

The Nativity scene.

streetsofamerica5-600.jpg

Nothing quite says Disney in New York quite like The Lion King on Broadway. While I was over on this side of the Streets of America, I went to check out the Monsters Inc. meet-and-greet since I was hoping to be able to meet Mike and Sully on this trip. By the time I had gotten there though, Lights Motor Action had just let out so it was incredibly busy, so I passed on it for now.

streetsofamerica6-600.jpg

I figured that the Muppets must have had something to do with decorating this fire escape. Who else would use rubber chickens and pink feather boas in the same display?

streetsofamerica7-600.jpg

Notice how little of the blue sky is left in the sky again? A sign of things to come.

streetsofamerica8-600.jpg

Having explored Streets of America, I headed on towards Mickey Avenue to see if Prince Caspian was around. I had finally seen the Prince Caspian film a few months before the trip, and I was hearing rumors that the Caspian meet-and-greet might be closing soon after the trip, so I wanted to be sure to meet him this time around.

When I got to the Narnia exhibit, the character handlers said that he wasn’t there, but would be back in about 10 minutes. Compared to all the other waits of the day, that sounded like nothing at all, so I got in line and was the first person to get to see him when he returned.

caspian1-600.jpg

Caspian came back sooner than anticipated, so the wait ended up being closer to 5 minutes than 10. Prince Caspian was pretty cool as was his location. It really reminded me a lot of Pixie Hollow but on a smaller scale- very well done.

caspian2-600.jpg

caspian3-600.jpg

After meeting Caspian, I passed on the “attraction” portion of Narnia (once was enough) and went to rejoin the rest of the family. A few weeks after we had gotten back, the news came out that the Caspian meet-and-greet was closing at the beginning of January, though the “attraction” portion remains. Too bad; another cool meet-and-greet gone from the Studios.

By now, it was about 45 minutes before the Block Party Bash parade was scheduled to start and, wouldn’t you know it, it was beginning to rain again- not a very heavy rain, but rain nonetheless. :sad2: It was some definite déjà vu from last August when the parade got rained out. Still we remained hopeful and found a somewhat dry spot on Hollywood Boulevard and waited. Even though it was postponed a few minutes from its 3pm showtime, the weather lightened up just enough for the show to go on!

bpb1-600.jpg

The parade ended up being a somewhat abbreviated version with no show stops and I think maybe a few floats and characters missing, but at least we got to see it- a first for us!

bpb2-600.jpg

The Toy Story gang!

bpb3-600.jpg

bpb4-600.jpg

I always seem to have the worst luck with Bo Peep in parades. Every time I take her picture, she seems to suddenly turn and/ or obscure most of her face.

bpb5-600.jpg

bpb6-600.jpg

Monsters Inc.

bpb7-600.jpg

bpb8-600.jpg

I thought it was cool to see all the different Monsters Inc. characters that don’t normally get out anywhere else like this guy.

bpb9-600.jpg

23-19!

bpb10-600.jpg

Rounding out the parade was the cast of A Bug’s Life.

bpb11-600.jpg

All in all, Block Party Bash was an enjoyable parade. I’m sure it would have been even better if they had done the full show, but I think we were just glad that it didn’t get rained out again! With the parade over, we headed down Hollywood Boulevard trying to figure out what to do next.

Next Chapter: American Idol and One Man’s Dream

We had decided that since we were already close by, we would make the American Idol Experience our next attraction of the day. We had a little more time before we figured we should be making our way to the theater though, so we did some exploring around the Hat and Chinese Theater area for a bit.

hollywoodstatue-600.jpg

I had been hoping to find some time to take this picture. I thought of the composition before the trip and was hoping to try it out. I don’t think it’s quite as good as I pictured in my head, so I might try it again next time.

chinesetheater1-600.jpg

I found these inside the windows on the front of the Chinese Theater: memorabilia from the premieres of Mary Poppins…

chinesetheater2-600.jpg

And The Jungle Book.

chinesetheater3-600.jpg

I miss this view as you’re coming down Hollywood Boulevard.

chinesetheater4-600.jpg

Wizard of Oz scene on one of the banners on the front of the Theater.

chinesetheater5-600.jpg

We spent a little bit of time checking out the hand and foot prints in the courtyard. I was excited to find Donald O’Conner’s prints since I had never seen them before. Again, it seems fitting to have another Singin’ in the Rain reference in the report- particularly since not long after this photo was taken, the rain started up again harder than ever, so we hurried over to the American Idol Experience to get under cover.

aie1-600.jpg

Even though it was a new attraction, the crowds didn’t seem too bad since it was a big theater. We pretty much had just a 20 minute wait until the next show time. Plus, the pre-show videos and warm-up were enough that it didn’t feel like very long at all.

aie2-600.jpg

This was our first time seeing the show, and I wasn’t quite sure how I’d feel about it. I somewhat expected to have some guests stand on a fancy stage and do some karaoke performances and to a degree I was right, but the whole experience was better than I had anticipated. The recreation of the set was impressive and a few of the singers were pretty good, but I think the judges really made the show click. They really did a great job at not only being entertaining but also giving some really solid constructive criticism on their performance. They seemed better than judges on TV! Dad always gets into American Idol when it’s on TV, so he really seemed to get into it, but I think we all enjoyed it. It’s a pretty interesting diversion and a nice new addition to the park. Plus, I’ve got to say, after 10 years of that theater being pretty empty, it’s nice to see something showing in there again.

onemansdream1-600.jpg

After the show, we headed off to one of my favorite smaller attraction in the parks- One Man’s Dream. Seeing all of the artifacts and memorabilia is always so fascinating.

onemansdream2-600.jpg

Maquettes from Fantasia.

onemansdream3-600.jpg

Dumbo!

onemansdream4-600.jpg

Model of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. I’d love to see it full-sized (maybe someday I’ll make it out to California…)

onemansdream6-600.jpg

Peter Pan’s Flight.

onemansdream5-600.jpg

onemansdream7-600.jpg

Another place on my list of Disney parks I’d love to visit- Disneyland Paris!

onemansdream8-600.jpg

Wildebeest prop from Broadways’ The Lion King.

onemansdream9-600.jpg

New to the exhibit since last time we were here was a small gallery celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Model of the Great Movie Ride was my favorite part.

onemansdream10-600.jpg

And look who was hiding in the D23 display- WALL-E and EVE!

We decided to skip the movie (just saw it last year, so I was ok passing on it), and head out. It was getting closer to dusk and I wanted to get to visit one more character spot before the Osborne Lights turned on.

Next chapter: Lights or light speed?

Nice update!
One Man's Dream is one of my favorite attractions at DHS :thumbsup2 I love the pics you took there!
