3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

Hey everyone! I’m back from Disney again and we had a great time. As you might guess based on the title for this portion of the report, “Wet Christmas”, the trip was a little more rainy than we had hoped, but we still had plenty of fun. :santa: With the Holidays coming up, I can’t promise how quickly I’ll be able to get updates posted, but until I get the first one posted, here’s a sneak peak of what to expect:

portfrog-300.jpg

A three-night stay at Port Orleans French Quarter and a visit to Riverside.

An evening at the Contemporary and dinner at The Wave.

And, of course, a few character greetings including a surprise or two!

Next chapter: Arrival at the French Quarter and a few Princess and the Frog inspired surprises.

Welcome back! I cannot wait to hear all about your trip! popcorn::

Thanks. I really want to start the first day this week, though I'm not sure if I'll find the time. If not, I promise it will be up right after Christmas.

Welcome Back!

I really can't wait to hear about your trip. I have much sympathy for a Wet Disney Trip!

Welcome to Port Orleans French Quarter! Like in August, we managed to make it to the resort in the early afternoon and had no wait and the online check-in desk. Despite all I had heard about how crowded Disney was already, the resort didn’t seem very busy. Our rooms were even ready even though it was still a few hours before regular check-in time.

poarrival2-600.jpg

After check-in, I noticed that the Jackson Square Gifts shop had its window display completely themed to The Princess and the Frog

The main lobby was decorated with trees, wreaths and garlands for Christmas.

We were all a little hungry, so before taking our bags to our rooms, we stopped for lunch at the Sassagoula Floatworks food court which promised New Orleans treats and Princess and the Frog- inspired surprises. I didn’t really notice any movie-inspired “surprises”, but there was still some good New Orleans food. After really enjoying the Muffuletta sandwiches at Riverside in August, Mom and I tried them again here, and they’re just as good in the French Quarter. :thumbsup2 Buzz ended up getting the Cheese Steak and Dad got some pizza- all of which was good.

poarrival8-600.jpg

After lunch, we made it to our rooms. They were pretty close to the main building so it was a short walk to both the food court and the bus stop. The rooms were good-sized too and looked great.

poarrival9-600.jpg

The Mardi Gras bedspreads were pretty cool. Close closely and you’ll find a few hidden Mickeys too.

Table and seating area.

The paintings in the room were inspirational art of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. If you look closely at this one, you can see the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean and the artist on the right is painting the Haunted Mansion.

poarrival13-600.jpg

On top of the usually towel Mickeys, we also had this towel creation. We couldn’t really figure out what it was at first, but we think that it might be a Christmas tree with garland and ornaments.

We were getting unpacked and started getting ready for our evening at the Contemporary when Dad realized that he had left one of his suitcases back at the house and didn’t have half his clothes for the trip including the shirt he had been planning on wearing to The Wave that night! :scared1: We ended up running to the resort shop but couldn’t find anything. It looked like he would have to either wear what we wore on the trip up or find something at another shop before dinner.

poarrival14-600.jpg

While everyone else was still getting ready, I headed back to the lobby since I hadn’t had a chance to look around the shop yet. Inside, the questions on the shop’s trivia board were all about The Princess and the Frog.

poarrival15-600.jpg

After looking around the shop, I headed back to the lobby to check out the trees again.

poarrival16-600.jpg

Along with the ornaments and ribbons, each tree was also decorated with portraits of Jazz Age New Orleans. After a while, I began to recognize the locations and style as being from The Princess and the Frog as well. I had read somewhere that the decorations at Port Orleans this were inspired by the film, but I couldn’t find any reports on The Dis that this was actually the case.

poarrival17-600.jpg

The lilly pads were my first clue that they were scenes from the movie.

poarrival18-600.jpg

poarrival19-600.jpg

By the time I got to this one though, I was sure all the scenes were from The Princess and the Frog. Looks like the La Bouff mansion to me.

poarrival20-600.jpg

Eventually, the rest of the family showed up, but before heading on, I made a quick stop at the gift shop to buy a The Princess and the Frog pin. I was hoping to be able to find this particular pin since it was the only one released that had had both Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen in human form, but since it was a pretty limited edition that was released on the film’s opening day, I figured that it would be sold out by the time I made it to Disney. Having learned my lesson from our October trip, I decided to just go ahead and get it first thing and not assume it would be in other places.T urned out to be a good plan because I didn’t see it at any other store or pin cart on property. Plus, it seemed like a fitting souvenir since it was clear that this trip to the French Quarter would be pretty Princess and the Frog intensive. After getting the pin, we left to explore more of the resort.

Next chapter: A Holiday visit to Riverside.

Great pic of POFQ's decorations! I like the addition of the Princess and the Frog themed items too! Your pin is great! What a nice reminder of the trip!

Great start! Love all the Princess and the Frog stuff. That one picture of the riverboat is so cool. Great pin too! Did they have any other PATF pins or just a few limited ones? I'd love to get one on our trip.

I am absolutely giddy with excitement at seeing all The Princess and the Frog things at POFQ! I hope it is all still there in January, I really want to see it.

Your poor Dad forgetting his suitcase! I always fear I'm going to do something like that!

Thanks Dawn. I think we picked the right year to finally stay at the French Quarter for Christmas. All the Princess and the Frog stuff was really fun.

Thanks. They did have some open edition Princess and the Frog pins as well. They had one of Tiana in her green gown to match the other Princess pins, a spinner pin that had a picture of Princess Tiana on one side and Tiana as the frog on the other side, and a pin set similar to the Cinderella one I got in October than had four pins- one of Princess Tiana, one of Prince Naveen, one of Louis, and one of Tiana and Naveen as frogs, so you should have some options when you get there.

And we haven't even gotten through all the different Princess and the Frog surprises around the resort! Hopefully, I'll have pictures of them all posted by the time you leave next month. If not, I'll just have to PM you before you go and tell you what to look for.

Thankfully, the suitcase that Dad forgot was one that wasn't too full so it wasn't nearly as bad for him as it could have been. Plus, it will lead to him getting some pretty nice Disney shirts.

Nice report.
Its cool that you still have that hat. The first thing I ever bought at WDW was the invisible dog with leash that they were selling at the Haunted Mansion. I have a lot of fond memories of that.

Hi and welcome to the report. :wave2:

I'm a bit confused by your comment though. I don't recall mentioning a hat. Was it something that I forgot writing about? I do remember those leashes though. I never got one, but they were pretty cool to see.

Since tonight is Christmas eve, I wanted to make sure to wish all who celebrate it a very merry Christmas. :santa: Hope that it's a good one for you, and I'll hopefully see you back after the holiday for more trip report.

Merry Christmas to you too! Looking forward to reading more after the holiday! :santa:

Hi everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas weekend. The four of us had a great Holiday together. We even made it back to the movies to see The Princess and the Frog again. This was Mom and Dad’s first time seeing it, and they loved it. So, without any further ado, let’s continue our “Wet Christmas” trip:

postroll1-600.jpg

When we left off before Christmas, we had arrived at Port Orleans Riverside, and after having lunch, checking into our room and exploring a bit of the lobby, we headed to explore the outside of the resort a little. There, even more of the decorations at the French Quarter feature Princess and the Frog touches.

Christmas ornaments and Mardi Gras masks decorate the lampposts.

postroll4-600.jpg

We had reservations to eat dinner at The Wave at the Contemporary, but before we left, we wanted to walk next door to see some of the Christmas decorations there. On the way there, we stroll down Rue d’Bega where poinsettias give a seasonal touch to the gardens.

postroll6-600.jpg

All of the little gardens and fountains in the French Quarter are so charming.

As we reach Riverside, the mansions on Magnolia Bend begin to come into view.

Port Orleans.

We had never seen Riverside at Christmastime, so it was neat to get to see all of the decorations. Outside, mini trees and poinsettias give the area a festive touch.

Inside, a giant Christmas tree graces the main entrance.

riversidechristmas6-600.jpg

The tree had some really interesting decorations. The magnolias were a nice touch.

Out in the lobby, matching wreaths were hung.

A look at the lobby of the Sassagoula Steamboat Co. complete with decorated garlands.

After looking around a bit, we took a look through the Riverside shop as well. Some of the mechanical displays weren’t working like they were in the summer, but they were still here. After a quick look-through, we decided to leave Riverside and head off to the Contemporary

Glad you had a great holiday! I love the resort pics! One of my favorite things from our Christmas trip, last year, was resort hopping and seeing all the decorations. WDW only gets more lovely at Christmas!

Thanks Dawn. The Christmas decorations are always so nice, and as great as Port Orleans was, the Contemporary was even more decked out.

Those decorations are just so beautiful! I can't wait to be there!

It won't be long now for you. :thumbsup2

Hi Meeko!

Hope you had a good Christmas, and Santa was good to you! :santa:

Great updates, I love seeing POFQ again, brings back so many lovely memories! It looks lovely with the decorations, we never saw that last year. The theming with Princess and the Frog is very fitting for it! Hope you got a chance to sample some biegnets and another pain au chocolat!

Looking forward to the next installment!

Hope you and your family have a Happy Hogmany and a Guid Ne'erday! (Good New Year's Day - Scots translation!)
