So this was just posted ....

And I am exaggerating as I still do like Oliver - but I guess I struggle to relate to someone loving Disney so much but not liking these classic attractions

Small World was created for the Worlds Fair - and this and the Carousel of Progress probably best represents Walt's vision/hope for the world

The Tiki Room was created by Walt and was his vision and represents the origins of animatronics

The Liberty Belle is another original and is just classic to the park

... though maybe I am just still upset for Oliver saying that Figment the character needs to be gone from ECPOT completely ;)

I never did understand Figment...but I'm a literal person. I agree with your feelings re: COP and IASW, however. Sorry Oliver, we'll have to agree to disagree. Now I have the Tiki Room theme stuck in my head...

I have to say...it's a little strange to keep producing videos of worst this, overrated this and terrible that!

Uh, you guys are a travel agency.

Might as well advertise and say, come to WDW where it's boiling hot and twice as humid and stand in long lines for terrible attractions and the worst food! Extra expensive! Alligators are a bonus! Hurricanes is you're lucky!

I do have to say...can't stand Small World. But that's because I was subjected to it as a song at a young age . Still made sure I experienced the ride though! :)

I struggle to understand how walt's legacy is the same as don't change the attractions. Walt was famously known to seek out new technology as a way to better the entertainment experience. His legacy to me is to keep things changing and relevant using new technology. He also was famous for not doing the same thing over and over again which is how we got the disney parks in the first place. I think there comes a time where a classic attraction is more of a museum piece and it's time to move on. It doesn't mean it can't be reworked into something else.

It's sad to say this but we're a generation, if that, away from nobody alive that remembers the early years vividly enough to describe it. I went in the 70s but I couldn't tell you many details, just bits and pieces because I was too young. Why some lands exist and what they were picked for isn't really relevant anymore. Through my daughters eyes, I see the classic attractions as nice museum pieces. she's happy she could do them, but doesn't need to do them again.

I am fine with updating the attractions - I actually disagreed with what Craig was saying in his take on the Haunted mansion that the new effects are bad and shouldn't have been added

Maybe it is just the use of the word "terrible" - to me that is something that is actively bad and does not have any redeeming qualities

To me, I get enjoyment out of watching the tiki room and picturing that scene of Walt with the animatronic tiki bird and stuff like that

If it was "3 classic attractions that I skip over" - then yeah, ok - but I just don't get calling them "terrible" given the historic context (though perhaps it is just me)

I completely agree with Max, the use of the word "terrible" is bizarre here. It's not only bizzare, it's wrong. Those attractions are classic Disney. What makes Disney so special? You can't point to one thing, it's a special emotional aura that's created. If the formula could be cracked someone else would have!

I can only speak for myself. Here is my experience, I am frequent visitor of the Land but have NEVER been to WDW. About a year ago my BF gave me the green light to plan a Florida trip, I went from being a casual listener of the podcast to an avid listener. WDW is such a different animal I wanted to really research it. Here I stand a year later, my interest in WDW has waned, I told my BF I am more interested in heading West again - see PTN, the MSEP, etc. I am far more interested in other Disney products like DLR, Aulani, cruise or ABD.
I watch the Dreams show and Tracey talks about managing expectations, and she does it well. I watch a show about Aulani and $9 hot dogs and walk away feeling better prepared and informed but still very excited about Aulani!!! I listen to the DL podcast and also feel updated and excited about my next trip. I see these "terrible, overrated and worst" videos, comments like the Studios is a barren wasteland or Pete ranting too often and it just...turns me off.
I just don't get why as a travel agency you would blast your flagship product. I get helpful tips, things to avoid, but this "terrible, overrated and worst" series leaves me scratching my head why people go to WDW! I don't think I could think of 3 things I dislike about DL no matter how hard I tried!

I think your taking 2 different things and making them connected. It's a terrible show. If it was a good show that is still relevant it would have lines still. It's ok that you love it for different reasons, it's entertinment, I love things others hate also. Families grow up with animatronics in the local mall, rainforest brings a taste of that. anyone can decorate their house with moving holiday decorations.. it's just not that special anymore so someone younger like oliver, he sees the use of animatronics in a show that he doesn't like. My daughter see's the show, not how it came to be.. she's not interested in how the magic works, it just works for her.

Now the historical content and preserving it, I completely agree with. I love the technology side of what that show is, I just can't stand watching the whole thing. In the theme park, it's not adding to experience. Fantasmic I think is a good example of a first that is still relevant and entertaining to many. Water screens with live action.. great historical content. I still find the show terrible though, I don't really like that one either. I would love for it to be changed to something I would enjoy, but I appreciate the mass appeals to others that do enjoy it. It adds to the park experience, it gets people out of line for things I do want to see, it's not like tiki room that is taking up space and not very interesting to many..

Liberty Belle is a nice relaxing ride across the Mississippi. One of the few things to do in Liberty Square. I like it. Is it one I have to do every time I'm there? No. But it's harmless. Some nice photo opportunities for Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder.

Small World is an indisputable classic. Every true Disney fan has to at least appreciate it. You don't have to love it, but from the Mary Blair artwork and audio animatronics, to the classic Sherman Brothers song, it is absolutely essential to the fabric of Disney's DNA.

Tikki Room is special because it's Walt's... and has a lot of history to it. But I will admit that after the Tikki Tikki Room song is over, I'm bored to death during this one. But I respect it for what it is and what it has meant to Disney.

Tonyz, you are very well spoken, that was put beautifully.

When Oliver suggested they rip out the Tiki Room and put in a bar it became clear he doesn't "get" Disney. Disney serves alcohol very selectively in the MK and Disneyland park. It's 2016 and they still maintain that standard and I believe it is a good one. Turn Walt's Tiki Room into a bar for young singles to hook up and frat boys to wander through Fantasyland singing half drunk? What? Huh?

The SSC is a full scale replica of the first American ship to sail around the globe. The Mark Twain riverboat has 3 floors and gives you spectacular photos and aerial views. They both play a show stopping role in Fantasmic. I imagine the Liberty Belle is equally cool. And you can make fun of IASW till you're blue, but in DL it has some of the longest wait times. It's 50 years old and can and does hit 60 minute waits. I doubt Frozen will achieve anything near that. Granted, the two ISAWs are not identical.

Oliver seems to already be rather jaded after only a short time with the Dis and living near WDW. I don't see Disney being a long life passion for him. Oliver and his sister-in-law in both their videos seemed overly concerned with finding alcohol at Disney. I find that odd.

In Kylie's videos she was in search of popcorn and giraffes. She found great joy in both. I think Kylie is fantastic. I believe Kylie "gets" it.

I can totally see where you guys are coming from.

However I do think that there are also different types of fans for Disney parks fans. Some see the "classics" and describe it as boring, others it's a part of what makes WDW WDW or DLR DLR. Sometimes it's a "I used to ride this as a kid and enjoy it as an adult" type ride versus "This seems so blah to me as an adult".

TBH I don't agree with every single ride in any of those types of mini podscasts with any of the podcasters. Sometimes I'm like "hey that's like my favorite thing" or "omg how can they love that?"

No one in my family cares about IASW but to me I have to go on it when I'm there. I have strong memories tied to it (even if by golly that song gets stuck in my head in a bad bad way). But to someone else who doesn't have memories attached to it goes onto it the first time might say it's like torturing them. And like disneyland_is_magic was saying about DLR, IASW in WDW can have long waits too (back in Sep 2011 waits of 45-90mins weren't uncommon when I was there just depending on the time of day because other times it was more managable at 15-25 mins so I would expect Sep 2017 to be the same as well).

I have to be honest I haven't done Tiki Room yet but I love Liberty Belle and Carousel of Progress is a favorite of my husband and I must say I enjoy it as well.

For me I like a variety of attractions..ones that are educational, ones that are slower pace, ones that roller coasters (though not ones that have too big of drops, or loop-de-loops, etc--my husband loves those), ones that are classics to me and evoke strong memories or feelings, ones that have great special effects or cutting edge technology or ones that just have more old-school animatronics/moving parts, ones that take me back into the movies/tell stories, even ones that involve water (as long as it's hot enough outside lol) etc.

Overal though I do enjoy the banter during the minipodcasts and it is interesting to see each podcaster's take on a ride or attraction albeit sometimes I completely disagree with their reasoning/choices.

@Mackenzie Click-Mickelson I was going to add something very similar to what you posted - I think one of the greatest things about WDW is that there are so many ways to experience it. I love that there are smaller experiences and actually wish there were more walktrhough attractions which are great breaks ... but also get that others focus on the "big" ones

I think it is just the word "terrible" that got me. To me, that is something like Stitch which basically no one liked since it opened - or even when they did the redo to Tiki Room and realized no one liked it and converted it back. That's why if it was "3 classic attractions I don't like" is different than "3 terrible attractions"

Maybe in England terrible means something different than here.

lolz
Most people who live here who have been countless times get jaded.
A person can be passionate about something and still be grounded in reality, while also trying to be humorous for the sake of a video.
I'm sure Oliver is aware of where alcohol can be purchased and isn't overly concerned.

I fully agree about the ride in it's current form ... but he went beyond that saying the character of Figment should be kicked out of WDW all together

Well, he's not wrong. And take Duffy with you!

lol no. I actually own a Figment metal figure I bought WAAAY....i have no idea. Must have been late 90s, and got it in Epcot.

While I disagree with their opinions, I thought this was an fairly entertaining episode
