3 sisters + 2 worlds=5 days of Orlando fun! An Aug. '10 TR...final thoughts p. 45

As pitiful as it sounds, I really wouldn't mind taking two trips that close together. It would be like taking a two week trip with a break at home in between. Especially staying at two different places, and being with different family members each time, the experiences would be different. Maybe I could sneak in a round of golf or two, or take a side trip to the Space Center. We'll see how things unfold; hopefully Claire will want to go with you.

I think mid to late March is one of the best times of the year to go to WDW. It's early enough in the year that the real heat and humidity haven't settled in, but the risk of it being really cold is pretty low. We also might try to catch a Braves game at the Wide World of Sports.

haha, then I think you should buy a new AP!

Will the spring training be going on still when I go? That might be interesting to see...

Woohoo, a Spring Break trip! I'm so jealous. My dad told me "Two years. We'll go back in two years." D: Hopefully before then! That is just too long for me, haha!

Oh, geez, my average score on Buzz is a pitiful 6,000- highest I've ever gotten was like 62,000? And that was pure luck! My shooter is broken like everytime, I just know it is!

That is really weird about the machine eating y'alls tickets... I never really thought that could happen... I just assume Disney machines are perfect, LOL! Hopefully that doesn't happen again for you

Two years?! I hope you get to go back sooner too. It's funny because that's how our trips always used to be. We'd go every other year. Now if we don't go atleast once a year I can't stand it! LOL.

haha, you sound like my sister. She always gets mad at us if we get high scores. In all fairness though those guns are hard to use and sometimes you do seem to get a dud laser.

I got goosebumps from your update! It all started with the MK music on the bus. I'll be hearing that in less than a WEEK! I LOVE the music on the buses...and it is something I usually forget about until we are back again-or unless someone mentions it in their TR!! :goodvibes

The morning show looks like SO MUCH FUN! I really, really, really hope to make RD! If Joe is slow I'm grabbing Henry and leaving him in the dust. :rotfl:

We had a FP issue with a couple of our tickets back in December as well - the CMs ended up giving us a different card just to use for FPs. It was strange.

4 days for you Brook! So jealous!

I hope you make it too, if you don't you will regret it. ;) You HAVE to see it!!! I will be looking for it in your TR...

Hmm, that is interesting about a different card. Glad we aren't the only ones that has happened too though.

HECK YEAH- I'll tell you whatever you want to know about OKW!!

I kind of figured you would! So are there different sections at OKW like there are at SSR? Where do you guys usually stay?

Love the update. :thumbsup2 Ah, MK's welcome show. I love it! I have the music on my iPod and I listen to it at work at least once a day. :goodvibes

We stayed at SSR once and really loved it there. The room was awesome and I totally dug having our own washer/dryer. :goodvibes

I have it on my ipod too. I love that song! :goodvibes

You must've been in one of the one or two bedroom villas then because we definitely didn't have a washer/dryer.

That's great news about your spring trip; looking forward to hearing all about it!

Great update! I love the MK morning show; it would feel so wrong to miss it! :goodvibes So cool that you called your dad during the show! Last trip when my daughter didn't come, I called her during Tower of Terror (at her request).

Hope you didn't have any more fastpass trouble!

It is great news. I always feel better when I know for sure when I'll be going back.

I remember the first time we ever saw it. It was such a surprise because we had NO idea they even did something like that! Now we always try to get there early enough to see it.

A trip to Old Key West sounds like fun. And celebrating a late birthday and a new job sounds great. :thumbsup2

Ah yes, the Mickey Mouse March from the bus. I actually have an old Disney World/ Disneyland official CD from years ago with that exact track on it. When i first heard it on the bus, I recognized it right away.

I wonder how long Tiana and Naveen have been arriving on the train in the morning. In June they weren't there. It's nice to see that they're out in more places than just their meet-and-greet.

Yeah, I will be picking up some celebration buttons for myself on that trip!

That's cool about the song being on your CD. The one I found on iTunes was the Disney World Band CD.

I was surprised to see Tiana and Naveen on the train. They seemed to have a lot of the not-so-common characters on there which I think is so neat about the opening show.

I think you will love OKW! Such a relaxing place! I loved the Magic Kingdom rope drop update! That is my favorite opening show by far! I just love it! The show is great and the anticipation of a Magic Kingdom morning ahead can't be beat:goodvibes

I think I'll enjoy OKW too. There hasn't been a resort yet that I didn't like. The MK opening show is my favorite too. Love it!

Go ahead and admit it, I'm always glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets like that! hehe
Yeah, seems pretty weird for someone from Oklahoma, huh? My parents were both born and raised in Minnesota, my dad made sure both my brother and I grew up Vikings fans! I totally agree with you that Favre should have stayed retired the first time, he took what would have been looked upon as a fabulous career and turned it into a joke :sad2:

Now, on to your update. Thanks so much for posting the video of rope drop ceremony @ MK, that is the one RD that I must see every trip :cloud9:

Funny you mentioned having trouble with your APs getting stuck in the FP machines, that has happened to me a few times as well. Thankfully there is always a CM there to help get it back!

Ahh, got it. That is kind of like how my Dad went to the University of Michigan so now my sisters and I have kind of adopted them as "our" football team (especially since our college doesn't have one)...no laughs please. It's interesting being a UM fan in Wisconsin...

Glad you enjoyed the video! I just love that whole song. The only thing that makes me kind of sad about that video is I just missed the train whistle. I love that!

Are the fakes blind boxed? I just bought some on eBay and was worried of fakes, but I figured if it was a sealed cased and blind boxed I'd be fine.

I think you'll be fine too, especially if they are sealed. Honestly I had never even heard of fakes until a couple people mentioned them on here.

Nope, not a dork at all! I actually feel the exact same way. That's why we nixed the DDP idea. I know a lot of people are so full for dessert that they take a bite. I'd feel obligated to bring it back with me (along with leftovers from dinner), and then I'd worry that I wouldn't have enough time to finish it. I hate wasting food! Haha, got that from my mom, which is why she finished those fries at Electric Umbrella.

Unfortunately, the wasting food thing comes into play later on during the trip out of "necessity" ... :scared1:

I can't imagine how much we would waste if we did the DDP. I don't know how I would ever eat all that food! I'll just always be reminded of those people on our trip last summer who gave us their food. Crazy.

Great update Sarah! You know i have NEVER seen the opening ceremony ak MK!!! :sad2: I just missed when we were this month!

:scared1: You've never seen it?! You have to when you go in December!

I think OKW sounds like a great place to try, a first for you right? The rooms are very large and the resort is beautiful. I love being able to take a boat to DTD too. I know it might sound silly but the patio is off the room on one side, and you have a window on the other side of the room. It really added great lighting to the room.

I am sure your Dad would love to get to a Spring Training game, that is a fun thing to do if you love baseball. When we went in 2009 DH was hit by a foul ball, a line drive. Ouch. Of course the CM's were so nice to him. The facility is so beautiful.

OT did you see the Large Mickey Statue from Anaheim at the ballpark yet? We were there last night and I came across it on my way to Friday's during the 8th inning. I took a few of pictures, although the guard told me it is there to stay. Now we have a spot to take a picture if we have a mini meet.;) Long game, but a fun win, Go Brewers.

Yup, OKW will be a first for me! Very excited. I have heard that about the rooms there being some of the nicer DVC ones.

I know that Dad and Emma would enjoy a spring training game. I might be interested too if they're still playing when I'm there. We've never been to Wide World of Sports (we could have if we had gone to that Old Spice Classic last year...still bitter about that. LOL).

I did not see the statue. I had no idea it was going to be at the stadium! The next game we are going to is the 12th I think. I'll have to say something to my sister and go over and check it out. I want to take a picture by it! hehe Glad you got to see them win last night! Lately we've seen a lot of wins too. Much more fun than our first four games this season when they lost them all!:sad2:

I read your update this morning before church but didn't have time to comment, so I'm back!

YAY for another trip in the upcoming future! I was talking to my cousin today, and we tossed around the idea of going next February or something. Don't know if it'll work out since of course I can only go during Pres Week, but her boyfriend is still in college, so he can't just take off a week of work like she can or DFi can.

Stinky to have rain, but you explained it well that you can still get excited! Better to be in rain in WDW than at home!

STILL determined to see that morning show! If anything, I'll catch it during my Disneymoon! Does that mean they do the morning show for EMH and then do the morning show again? Hmm, feels kinda like deja vu ... did I ask this question before? Haha. Anyway, I think it's funny listening to the girls singing when they sing without the guys!

Awesome Buzz score!

I kind of figured you would! So are there different sections at OKW like there are at SSR? Where do you guys usually stay?

I guess you could call them sections? There are SO many buildings. There are a few bus stops throughout the resort, but you may not be right near one, so you might have to walk. There are also several quiet pools throughout the resort too. I think each big section has it's own.

We've never really requested a certain place. Maybe check out the OKW map and see what interests you. Honestly, I don't think there's a bad place to end up there.

Yep, gotta love having DVC! It sure makes planning more trips a whole lot easier. Hopefully you'll get to go soon too.

That is a good question, I honestly don't know if they do it again. :confused3 I know they have music they play for the park opening but since I've never been outside the park on an EMH morning I don't know!

OK, so it's not like SSR where there are clear sections with names. I know that it is really big...when we visited in April we saw the internal shuttle. I think Dad requested something close to the main building. I'm excited to see what it's like there!

Monday, August 9, 2010 cont'd (part 2)

Hoping our bad luck was behind us we cut through Fantasyland as our way to get to Frontierland. There were a lot of boards up for all of the Fantasyland construction. Boy how things had changed from April! We didn’t stop to look at them but there were different signs up showing all of the new attractions coming with the expansion. It’ll be interesting to see what the finished project looks like in 2012 or whenever it is supposed to be finished.

39735_1394057703896_1605780003_31167619_3318169_n.jpg

As we were walking we were kind of discussing how if it was our first trip to WDW we’d probably be pretty disappointed. Between the new construction, the remodeling of the Pooh entrance, and It’s A Small World being closed for refurbishment, Fantasyland was pretty torn up! Anyway, we finally made it over to Liberty Square and Frontierland. It looked like the sun was maybe going to come out. And of course the sun meant heat. What better way to beat the heat than to take a ride on Splash Mountain. We chose SM first and had virtually no wait. As usual it was great. That ride really has some great theming. Whenever I ride it I always think about Song of the South and how I wish they would just release that movie over here. I know Dad and I have discussed it but can’t they just release it with some sort of explanation of the historical context? I really want to see it! OK, vent over.

After our visit with Brer Fox, Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit we headed over to Thunder Mountain.

36795_1394058183908_1605780003_31167621_4395704_n.jpg

Rachel, I have to give a shout-out to you because I thought of you when we were getting in line! For those of you who didn’t read my April TR, I had my first DIS meet with RachelNinja. We met up near the bridge in Liberty Square while the parade was going on and then she let Dad and I use her Guest Assistance Card to ride BTMRR with them. :)

I decided to try to take some pictures on the ride since I’ve never done it before and I’m always trying to get new and different pictures. Surprisingly they turned out OK!

44807_654536381884_20305212_37455398_622120_n.jpg

And some of Emma's...this first one's pretty funny because there are a ton of people with their cameras out.

So we had conquered two of the three MK mountains. We were still hoping we’d be able to use our fastpasses for Space Mountain…after all, no day at the MK is complete without doing the triple mountain whammy. Thanks to Stacy I don’t think I can ever refer to them as anything other than the triple mountain whammy. It’s all wham!

Claire's picture of SM on our way to Adventureland...

Continuing our way around the park, we ended up in Adventureland where we rode Pirates of the Caribbean.

Claire got a new camera before our trip so she had some fun playing around with the different settings.

Again, it was pretty much a walk on. It was slightly annoying though because all through the ride everyone in our boat and the boat ahead of us was taking pictures, *cough*including my sisters*cough. And this was even after the CM said no flash photography. Some people will never learn I guess.

Here's a crummy picture I took. Notice it is blurry because I DON'T use the flash on rides. haha
44579_654536706234_20305212_37455402_7113966_n.jpg

When we got out of the ride the Pirate Tutorial was going on. Since we had never seen it before we stopped to watch for a while. I didn’t even know they still did that show. It was pretty amazing how much Jack Sparrow looked like Johnny Depp. Crazy!

39123_1394059303936_1605780003_31167630_4482540_n.jpg

When we had had enough of the show we decided to check out the Jungle Cruise. You could tell the park was not that busy yet because the stand-by line said 15 minutes and the fastpass return time was only 15 minutes out too. We only had to wait for a couple of boats before our adventure.

Some very life-like audio-animatronics. ;)
45694_654536651344_20305212_37455401_7674435_n.jpg

Think they'll get the point in the end?
46463_654536935774_20305212_37455405_5553424_n.jpg

I have to say we didn’t have the best skipper on our cruise. Claire even asked me what I thought of him and I guess we both had kind of the same reaction. He was an older man and just didn’t really try to deliver the jokes the right way. To me it almost seemed like he was just reading straight from the script. Not to mention he was sitting down on one of the crates pretty much the whole ride. I don’t know, it was just kind of strange. I tried to laugh but couldn’t get into it. Kind of disappointing.

To finish off Adventureland we rode the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
39806_1394059503941_1605780003_31167632_3939546_n.jpg

I think they have some fake jewels embedded in the cement so while we were in line this little girl in front of us kept trying to pick them up. She didn’t have much luck. LOL!

So after only a couple hours in the park we were able to get through a bunch of attractions with minimal waits. Gotta love that.

Up next: Meeting Tiana and Naveen!!!

Nice update. Sounds like you were able to get a lot done. I enjoyed the pictures too. Tell Claire that her Splash Mountain picture and Pirates picture both look great. :thumbsup2

It looks like Fantasyland has changed even from when I was there in June. Love all the pictures of Big Thunder Mountain, especially the one where you can see the castle. And you are so right about that Jack Sparrow. He looks like a bit of a hottie:love:

That is a good question, I honestly don't know if they do it again. :confused3 I know they have music they play for the park opening but since I've never been outside the park on an EMH morning I don't know!

I'm pretty sure that when they have AM EMH they only do the welcome show before the opening for EMH.

loving the report so far! looks like the clouds started to break up in the alladin picture :)

boo to rain and to not so fnny skippers...

I think Dad requested something close to the main building. I'm excited to see what it's like there!

Actually, I didn't request anything because before I could even ask the DVC rep said that there was a studio available near the main buildings. That seems like a good thing because it would be close to a bus stop and the boat to DTD.

As odd as it sounds to see all the Fantasyland construction, I think it must be pretty fun too because it's a unique experience. I'm sure the pics of the construction are going to be fun pics to see in the future! Just like we can look at Birthdayland/Starland and all that in awe!

Cool! I feel so special to have gotten a mention on this TR too! BTMRR is one of the best rides, in my opinion. Great rollercoaster to have kids try first!

Haha, love Emma's pic on BTMRR with everyone's cameras out!

And woohoo for you for not using flash on POTC! It's so blinding when people do it!!!

Someday I will get my (or really DH's) butt out of bed early enough to see the opening ceremony at the MK. I will.

I told DH I would ride space mountain this time. I'm so freaked out. last time I rode it I said never again - I was afraid I wouldn't be able to walk afterwards! I'm kind of hoping its broken down when we go :rolleyes1

I feel the same way about Song of the South. The curiosity is killing me.

And I second Rachel's thank you - I HATE when people use their flash on POTC. It really ruins the moment.

You three got a ton covered! I will always think of it as the Triple Mountain Whammy as well. Is it weird that I'm sad the crazy Stacy is gone and that Henry will never get to fully experience her? I remember reading TRs and she was ALWAYS mentioned, now she never is-unless it's a reference to the past Stacy show. I remember hearing how kids loved watching it all Disney trip long...how sad now! She's okay now, but not nearly as fun!

I still can't wait to see her though. It means we are in Disney World!

We once had a "meh" skipper on the Jungle Cruise as well. The ride is still fun, but not nearly as funNY!

Sounds like an absolutely wonderful morning in MK! :goodvibes I love your description of the bus ride! I love that music! It gets me excited every single time!!!

I can't believe you got on all those rides so fast and with hardly any waits!! :cool1:

We've had FP problems like that several times! In January the FP machines outside BTMRR just wouldn't work! It was so annoying! The good thing was the CM hit that button on the back and handed me all the FP's I needed! Of course, then if we wanted we could have gotten a whole set of new ones at a different ride because the machine never read the card!

As we were walking we were kind of discussing how if it was our first trip to WDW we’d probably be pretty disappointed. Between the new construction, the remodeling of the Pooh entrance, and It’s A Small World being closed for refurbishment, Fantasyland was pretty torn up!

Good point. It would be interesting to hear from a first-timer who isn't a DISer (and thus didn't know about the construction before-hand).

Whenever I ride it I always think about Song of the South and how I wish they would just release that movie over here. I know Dad and I have discussed it but can’t they just release it with some sort of explanation of the historical context?

I've thought that a lot. I remember seeing it in the theater back in the late 70's/early 80's, and I'd love for my kids to see it. The music is so fun!

It was slightly annoying though because all through the ride everyone in our boat and the boat ahead of us was taking pictures, *cough*including my sisters*cough. And this was even after the CM said no flash photography. Some people will never learn I guess.

I remember reading a trip report from last year (MyMuse, I think?) and she actually had a migraine trigger from the flash on POTC. :sad2:

Great updates!!:thumbsup2

Yay for another trip!!:yay: That's so exciting! Aww....I just love the opening show at MK! :cloud9: It's a must-do for us every trip!:) Sorry that Space Mountain was down...and how strange about the fastpasses.:confused3 I hope you are able to ride later on. :thumbsup2

Wow! You were able to get a lot done that morning at MK! You got some great pictures on BTMRR! I've never taken my camera out during the ride...hmmm...I may have to try that! Aww..we love the Jungle Cruise...too bad your skipper wasn't so great!:sad2:

Love Claire's Splash Mountain picture!! So cool!:goodvibes

I'm here! and caught up this morning before work! I never knew about the SSR pathway before, but SSR sure looks pretty!! Sounds like you had weather like we did -- rain, rain, sometimes blistering hot, and than rain! Love the intro stuff you have for the MK :) I just love it, we missed it this time around :(

Edit to add: David and became obsessed with Vinylmation this trip, so I have some good stories coming up!

Nice update. Sounds like you were able to get a lot done. I enjoyed the pictures too. Tell Claire that her Splash Mountain picture and Pirates picture both look great. :thumbsup2

Thanks Meeko, I will tell her. I don't know if she is still lurking so maybe she saw your comment too. :)

It looks like Fantasyland has changed even from when I was there in June. Love all the pictures of Big Thunder Mountain, especially the one where you can see the castle. And you are so right about that Jack Sparrow. He looks like a bit of a hottie:love:

Yeah, that one with the castle is pretty cool. My sister loves to snap away and she always gets some unique pictures.

I'm pretty sure that when they have AM EMH they only do the welcome show before the opening for EMH.

That would make sense, it would be weird to do it twice.

loving the report so far! looks like the clouds started to break up in the alladin picture :)

boo to rain and to not so fnny skippers...

Yes, we did finally get to see some sun later in the morning!

Actually, I didn't request anything because before I could even ask the DVC rep said that there was a studio available near the main buildings. That seems like a good thing because it would be close to a bus stop and the boat to DTD.

Ohhh OK, so is that what you had written down on your sheet where you had me rank where I wanted to stay? :rotfl:

As odd as it sounds to see all the Fantasyland construction, I think it must be pretty fun too because it's a unique experience. I'm sure the pics of the construction are going to be fun pics to see in the future! Just like we can look at Birthdayland/Starland and all that in awe!

Haha, love Emma's pic on BTMRR with everyone's cameras out!

And woohoo for you for not using flash on POTC! It's so blinding when people do it!!!

It'll be interesting to see pictures as the construction progresses. I can't wait to see what the area is going to look like when it's all done. We probably won't even recognize it!

haha, yes I had to mention you. And when I saw people going in the exit I thought of our ride too since that's where we went in! I agree BTMRR is one of the best rides which is why it was cool you were just going over there and let us ride with you. As my dad said, we can never turn down a ride on Thunder Mountain!

I do too...I just noticed that as I was posting it! Pretty cool.

It is really blinding and kind of obnoxious. I have only used my flash a couple of times and whenever I did I always felt bad about it.

Yes you will. You must. Just do it!

Aww, Space Mountain is not that bad! That is how I felt about riding RNRC/TOT and now they are a couple of my favorites.

When we were at the State Fair they were selling Song of the South DVDs that were released in England or whatever. Too bad they were $50...:scared1:

It is frustrating when it's a whole family trying to get pictures. Then when they realize they don't turn out because it's dark they keep trying and trying. UGH!

You three got a ton covered! I will always think of it as the Triple Mountain Whammy as well. Is it weird that I'm sad the crazy Stacy is gone and that Henry will never get to fully experience her? We once had a "meh" skipper on the Jungle Cruise as well. The ride is still fun, but not nearly as funNY!

No, it's not sad. I miss the old resort loop too. The new one is not only way toned down but it's so short! :confused3 I did find the whole loop on google video a while ago and now have it on my ipod so I can enjoy Stacy whenever I wish. :rolleyes1:rotfl:

I agree about JC. We've had some great skippers who do an awesome job. He was just OK.

Aw...BTMRR. I miss it!! :sad1:

Me too. :sad2:

Sounds like an absolutely wonderful morning in MK! :goodvibes I love your description of the bus ride! I love that music! It gets me excited every single time!!!

Same here, when you hear the music it's like we made it! YAY Magic Kingdom!

Yep, getting there for opening always pays off for us. We love being able to do so much without any major waits. :thumbsup2

Ugh, that stinks about the fastpass trouble! I'm glad it wasn't just us though because that had never happened to us before. Luckily there was nobody behind us trying to get them.

Good point. It would be interesting to hear from a first-timer who isn't a DISer (and thus didn't know about the construction before-hand).

I've thought that a lot. I remember seeing it in the theater back in the late 70's/early 80's, and I'd love for my kids to see it. The music is so fun!

I remember reading a trip report from last year (MyMuse, I think?) and she actually had a migraine trigger from the flash on POTC. :sad2:

Yeah, I wonder what my friend thought when she was there. I doubt she knew anything about the construction. I should ask her.

We should start a petition for them to release it. haha

Ugh, really?! That stinks!

Thanks Angie!

It was a bummer that SM was down since we had to change our plans a little but oh well, it happens!

Since I took my camera out on Everest in April I thought what the heck, I might as well do it on BTMRR too. I really wonder what was up with that skipper. Even though he was older was he new at the JC? Hmmm.

Claire was actually kind of mad about her picture because she just missed the boat but I do like how she got the splash instead!

I'm here! and caught up this morning before work!

Hey Nicole! Welcome back. Yup, we had the typical Florida summer weather! Bummer you missed the MK opening. There's always next time.

Oooh, I can't wait to hear your vinylmation stories. LOL. popcorn::
