Hi! We head down to DW a month from today. We have been DVC members for a few years but have only traveled to Aulani up to this point.

We have an 8 night, 3 resort split stay. We wanted to do just 2 resorts, but we couldn't make the points work out the way we wanted. So since we arrive late the first night, we booked that 1 night at OKW before our week split between BLT and AKL.

We are still contemplating the cost effectiveness on the DDP and my question is this:

I know that we can use one set of MB's for our whole trip even though we are being sent 3 sets. I know all our FP's, park tix, and other reservations are linked on MDE.

What I can't figure out is if we book the DDP for the main portion of our trip (resorts 2 & 3 of our split stay) will we have to physically go over to BLT before heading to MK our first morning to check in do the DDP is activated? We planned to do a counter service lunch and have BOG reservations for dinner that evening.

Thank you!

You need to check into a resort before the dining plan for that portion is good but you only need 1 adult to go over and check in.

And you need to make sure that you are checked out of the previous resort or you may have DDP and room door lock issues.

ok, so I check out of OKW, ask them to move our luggage to BLT, take transportation to the ticket and transportation center where we can take the monorail to the Contemporary. One of us checks in, while the rest goes to MK and we meet up ASAP. We won't be back at BLT till nighttime so we can collect our luggage then.

How long should we give ourselves for the whole process? We have a 10:40 am FP+ for Seven Dwarf's Mine Train to get to.

We are at the VGF on day one and SSR day two with the DDP. We gave checked in online, will our ddp work without us going over to SSR? We are doing a early MK tour and will not have time to check in and we have an BOG FP that we will need the dining credit for.

Thanks for any help

Better....take your bags, get a cab. Go to checkin, drop your bags, walk to MK. So much easier.

The way I understand it, If you have the DDP for the night at VGF and didn't use the credits the day prior credits will work the next day in MK and then the new DDP from the second night will start when you actually check in at SSR. But I believe you have to check in in person for the DDP to activate.

You can't use the dining plan without physically checking into the new resort and you must be checked out of the previous resort to check into the new one, so you wither have to pay for your meal at BOG OOP or you need to check into SSR before you go to lunch(although just 1 adult can do this).

Depending on where you are staying at OKW you will either walk or take a bus to the main building and check out- I would give 15 min for this process it is pretty easy unless you will have charges to question. Getting a bus to the MK (you can't go to the TTC unless you take a taxi) from the main building (last stop) should take about 30 minutes if you just missed the bus while checking out and need the maximum amount of time. Once you get to the MK you can have 1 adult take the monorail or walk to the MK (since it is the first stop it depends on your walking speed and leg endurance). The process at the hotel should take less than 15 min. Walking/monorailing to and walking back from the hotel can be anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on waiting for a train/foot speed/traffic, ect.

We did a three resort stay in August on DDP. Never again. Im sure many have never had problems but ours were endless. 1. Somehow our FP got lost...and changed. My mother inlaw ended up on our FP list and she didnt even come. She was just on MDE from our previous trip. 2. The day we switched resorts we had 1 meal left and when we went to use it it was saying we used them all... because we checked out of Port Orleans. 3. By our third resort, my sisters band didnt work.. no idea why.. we used same ones all week.

We have been numerous times.. and know the ins/outs. The mistakes were all Disney related. They were fixed but it was just time consuming packing/waiting for luggage to arrive.. dealing the a "new dining plan" Not sure if this helps. Im not complaining because I feel we set our self up for possible issues but I wont do a 3 split stay on the DDP AGAIN!

I decided to just get the DDP for the 1 night first segment of our trip as well. It solved all my issues of having to check in before heading to the MK!

We've often just gone early to check in at the new resort, generally around 6 am, we then get the text for the room later in the day with no down time. But we have a car so that takes away the luggage issue. Otherwise we'd likely treat it like a cruise and take all of the luggage except those few required items and leave them at the new resort. That way our DP credits are active and we can use them for breakfast or an early lunch that first day if we want.

The problem with that plan is the fact that we are coming from CA so getting up that early will be really difficult with the kids and the time difference. We used to do that all the time when we were traveling to WDW from NJ.

Split stays and DDP do not mix! Checking out often makes your credits disappear. I like split stays and an occasional day or two of DDP, so I've done this often and it is almost impossible to avoid the disappearing credit problem.

OK but it's an option for you if needed and likely one better than trying to get over before lunch otherwise.
