3 (probably obvious) questions about renting

Hi all - my family of 5 (kids ages 9, 6 and 4 at time of travel) is going to Disney in March 2009. I am debating trying to rent DVC points or going with a regular on-site reservation. I have three questions that are probably obvious, but I'm trying to figure this all out!

1. I would like to go for 6 nights - ideally Sunday-Saturday. I looked up the points on the DVC chart - would I be able to add up the 6 nights for points or would I go with the weekly? For example, a Sunday-Saturday at AKL for SV would be 209 points, and then weekly shows as 268. (my dates are Magic Season).

2. Will I need to count on renting more points since my reservations are for 2009? Or are those charts (since they have the 2009 dates for the "seasons") accurate?

3. Finally, what would you recommend for a family of 5? It seems that only AKL lets 5 sleep in a 1 bedroom villa?

Thanks for any input!

You add up the points for the 6 nights (assuming your entire stay falls within Magic Season. If not, you have to use the point values that apply to the specific dates).

Since Easter will be in April next year, you can safely use the 2008 charts for Magic season. The week before Easter and the week after Easter are always Premier season.

3. Finally, what would you recommend for a family of 5? It seems that only AKL lets 5 sleep in a 1 bedroom villa?

Thanks for any input!
Your family would be allowed to stay in any DVC 1 bedroom, but only the AKV will have linens, bedding and a bed for 5 people. In the other DVC resorts, you are on your own for the 4th person. Some members bring an aerobed (or something similar) for the 5th person. At the AKV, there is a sleep chair in the living room area for the 5th person.

1) DVC reservations may be made for as few as one (1) night or for as many as you have points available. The point costs for a week are for 7 consecutive nights - if you only want to stay 6 nights, then plan on using the points needed for those nights.

2) The DVC Point Charts - link is at the upper right - are current through 2009. You should be able to figure out how many points would be needed. Keep in mind that DVC members will start making reservations for March, 2009 in a few weeks (11 months ahead).

3) Yes, 1BR villas at AKV are equipped to sleep five (5) adults. There is a King Bed in the Master Bedroom, a queen sleep sofa and a convertible chair that will sleep one. If you want comments about other DVC resorts, please ask in the "Occupancy Thread" since such discussion is limited to that thread only.

When you are ready to make the rental request, be sure to read all of the informational threads at the top of the Rent/Trade board.

Good luck with your rental! :)

I recommend a 2 bedroom. I know it's more money but your family will be happier for it. We stayed in a 2 bedroom in December with 5 and the additional room was will worth it.

A two bedroom at OKW would only be a difference of 14 points and you would be much more comfortable. It would be a difference of 24 points over AKV if you went with a standard view 2 bedroom at BWV but they are really hard to get. We like OKW, after a day of all the hustle and bustle of the parks it is nice to go back to the quiet of the place. It it more like a little village or community were as some of the other resorts the buildings are all together.

Thank you for the feedback! Of course, what I'm REALLY hoping is that within 2 years we'll have our budget worked out to actually BUY DVC. ;)
