We are supposed to be in AKV this week but our youngest has been sick off and on for a month with tonsilitis. Canceled 4 days before arrival (she seems better now that anti-biotics have kicked in), member services was very accomadating and put points back in to my use year instead of holding. Too bad the airlines aren't as understanding. Luckily we had trip insurance.
We tried to get a room between Xmas and New Years with no luck. So we booked CSR through Disney Collection that way our 2009 points wouldn't be lost. And luckily Travel Insurance paid for the new air fare with the crazy change fees.
Last year we got stuck in Disney 3 extra days because wife & kids all got swine flu and couldn't travel
4 Years ago got stuck in Disney 2 extra days because DD got an ear infection.
Luckily we always get travel insurance.
$80.00 bucks a year wisely spent

How wonderful that you had the foresight to buy the trip insurance. I hope your next Jersey week will be spent in WDW! Enjoy the other trips you have planned.

Sorry to hear about all your issues. But - it does seem that the stomach bug begins to hit every time we are getting ready to go. Thankfully (I am knocking on wood) we have avoided having any issues before during or after our trips. Just lucky - trip insurance is money well spent.

This is one of the few downsides to planning a vacation like this, you wait 11 months for your trip and something happens forcing you to cancel. We did cancel once about 10 years ago when my wife's mother was ill, and also cancelled when my grandmother passed away two days before our 2007 vacation. Member services was very understanding and helpful, and we were able to reschedule a Feb vacation that was very nice.

When my son was younger he would get sick every time we went to disney. And really sick too. One time it involved a hospital stay. Yet the rest of the year he was incredibly healthy - not missing a single day of school But at least he would wait until we got to disney. I still blame it on the plane ride. Anyway, you are very wise to get trip insurance and even though this trip didn't work out it sounds like you were able to plan another trip.

It's absolutely the plane ride. My DS waited to catch something nasty on the way home at least, but he missed a full week of school. We noe take airbourne before traveling. Seems to help.

We keep to The Code. He who falls behind shall be left behind. If you get sick, enjoy your stay with the grandparents. I hear they have chicken noodle soup.

(;) for the humor-impaired.)

Whattt!! Grandparents aren't getting to go?? And they are getting stuck at home with the sick one? This grandparent gig is not looking attractive to me at all.

(Was hoping that soon I would be a GP!)

I fly across the US at least two times a month. I have never bought Airborne and can't recall the last time I was sick.

(Oh and Airborne had to pay out a lot of money a few years ago due to thier "false claims" ... turns out it doesn't do anything that you couldn't do with regular old vitamins! )

It's actually more likely the stress. Stress lowers your immune system defenses and "excitment" is "Stress" to the body!

But if it was the airplane my coworkers and I would all be dead!

Last year I got a minor cold 5 days before departure. Was fine in Disney and now; Exact same timing, I am sick again, however not at WDW. :sad1:

I buy the trip insurance every time I buy a plane ticket. With the change/rebooking fees as high as they are, it's just not worth taking the chance.

In our house you can add "those that complain where they sleep and with whom" shall also be left at home. But we don't threaten with the Grandparents - it's the evil Auntie and grouchy Uncle.
