Well, I failed my 1hr. glucouse test last week. Today I had to do the 3 hr. version. I drank the "soda," felt fine while I was at the ofice--for the 3 hours. When I got home, I stared feeling really sick, then the shaking started....I called the nurse and told her what was going on. She told me to eat then call her back in an hour. I am now --an hour later--feeling much better, a little dizzy, but no shaking. Anyone have similar experiences? Does the shaking mean anything --like I have gestational diabeties??

Didn't you get your results while you were there? I got each of my readings after each blood draw..

I just failed my 3 hour last week...fun fun fun.

I can tell you that right after I had the lovely drink, I had an ultrasound, and I felt so sick laying on that table, shaking, nauseated, etc. But after all was said and done, I was just tired. I would suggest you try and eat something substantial and sleep.

I hope you didn't fail, but if you did, feel free to PM me. It's been a roller coaster of emotions the last week or so :)

Boy, am I tired as well. I have not felt tired this whole pregnancy until today! I would think the sugar drink would be keeping me awake, but just the opposite! My DH is on his way home right now. Thank goodness for all of the leftovers in the refidgerator. I know that I am not going to cook tonight. I should get the results tomorrow afternoon. They needed to be sent out of the Dr.'s office lab to be read. I wish I could have gotten the results right away! I will keep you posted and Minnesota! I may be PM'ing you soon!

The shaking was probably a sign of low blood sugar. Thats why they told you to eat and you felt better afterwards. That never happened to me in the extent yours did. But during both pregnancies I did get the shakes at times. I failed my 3 hr. with both pregnancies. I know it sucks. The only time you could eat what you want and you have to watch. Good Luck!

My 3 hour test results were o.k. - but I also felt sick and was shaky too. Hated doing that test....

I only had to have a GTT with my 2nd pregnancy, but it made me pretty sick. I tend to have low blood sugar as it is. I'm sorry you have to wait for your results. That's no fun.

I also got the shakes and dizziness with my first pregnancy. My doctor told me it was from my blood sugar dropping too fast. I had to keep peanuts on hand to munch on, because the protien helps maintain your blood sugar. I also had to go for the 3 hour glucouse test with my first pregnancy and remember being very tired afterwards. I hope you are feeling better soon.

On my last pg I failed the 1 hour but passed the 3 hour. Im sure you were queasy and shaky from fasting and could have been from the drink too. When I took my test the drink made me pretty queasy--of course so did everything else. I threw up the whole 9 months of the pg :(

I never got sick or shaky with the glucose tests for either of my kids. I failed the 3 hour with DS6(now) and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It is a pain, but if you follow your diet, you should be fine. I know what you mean roliepolieoliefan, the only time you really should be able to enjoy yourself eating all you want, and you have to go on a diet. Plus you have to have blood drawn every week, and prick your finger 4-5 times a day, and schedule everything. At least now they have better and less painful ways to monitor your blood sugar levels, my fingers used to ache!! At least I never had to take insulin, that was quite a motivater to follow the diet. AND I lost 5 pounds the first two weeks I started it! With DS4, I passed 2 of the four checkpoints, but they still diagnosed me because I had it in the past!--NOT FAIR!!( I am still Pi**ed off about that today!) I was also older (advanced maternal age pregnancy-how quaint!) 40 and 42. So keep your chin up, it's not the end of the world, and luckily it goes away when your baby comes!

I failed the 1 hr and didn't have to take the 3 hr because I failed so badly - nice
but I felt so miserable after the 1 hr all sick and shakey
I'm glad I didn't have to take the 3 hr
good luck

I failed the one hour and three hour with first kid. When I failed the one hour with number two, I said, no way am I taking the three hour torture test again. I just did the diet and took my blood sugar readings. Same with third kid. I hated the three hour test!!!

Personally, I think that the fact that so many women feel icky after they take that test just means that it's a horrible test that's too stressful. I'm debating whether I'm going to do the 1 hour with this pregnancy. On one hand, I'm going to the only OB practice in town that I could be happy with, so I don't want to jeopardize that. But on the other hand, I don't see what the point is of finding out how my body reacts to drinking orange syrup. I would never do that. I don't even drink Sprite because it's too sugary.

Sorry, I'll stop ranting. That's just one of my pet peeves. They should take your blood sugar after you've eaten something that people really eat, like ice cream or pancakes with syrup.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I hope that you all feel better... they did this to my mom when she was pregnant with me. Only, she said that it was something like six hours and it was one of the worst experiences of her pregnancy. I hope that your pregnacies are all going well, and congrats!

I failed my 1 hour test when I was pregnant with my ds and had to take the 3 hour test. I passed it, but just barely.:o When I got home, I had the shakes pretty bad, but I think that's just because my body was jittery from all that sugar. The 1 hour drink wasn't as sweet tasting as the 3 hour drink was.

This is probably going to sound like a horror story, but it isnt everything worked out fine! I failed the 3 hour test and as others have said had to check my blood sugar levels every day 1 hour after I ate each meal and snacks. I also had to visit with a perinatal doctor for advanced ultra sounds. (which was kinda neat as you get very clear views of the baby!) and non-stress tests. My DS was due on May 11th on May 1st I had went for a ultrasound with the perinatoligist and he told me the baby was anywheres from 9.5 to 10.lbs! I got home there was a message on my phone from the OB asking me to call  I called and he tells me the baby is big.......but his shoulders measured much larger than his head (not good) That next day at 5:00 am DH and I were at the hospital having a C-section:( Our DS was born at 7:38 AM on May 2nd 2002 and he weighed 9 lbs 15 oz and 21" Big Boy!!But everything worked out great!! The doctors will tell you everything that can go wrong. But all that is very few and far between! I was told that I still could be diabetic after pregnancy. Half hour after he was born my BSL had dropped to 85! Where while pregnant it was always around 105 sometimes higher! My DS had no problems at all what so ever. He had an excellent APGAR score. Th only bad thing was the C-section I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT want to have one! Our first DS was 6lbs 6 oz and I literally had him a half hour after I arrived at the hospital!!! I did not really think I was in labor my DH convinced me to go to the hospital because my water had broke and he was terrified that he would have to deliver a baby!! :p Everything will be fine::yes:: If you dont pass the 3 hour just listen to your OB and your heart! Good luck I hope you pass because it does stink to have to watch what you eat while you are pregnant!

You guys aren't going to like this, I certainly didn't!! DMIL told me that when DSIL was pregnant, her doctor gave her a SNICKERS bar for her glucose test, instead of that awful drink. I wasn't so lucky-orange pop with 5 times too much sugar---Yuck!

The one hour was not that bad. I mean, sucking down a sugary Fanta orange-like drink is not my fav, but it was ok. It is the 3 hour one that did me in. Not being able to eat, then drinking the drink (which, by the way, is twice the glucose load as the first drink) and then having to wait around for three hours to be a human pin cushion. NO THANKS.

Kermit,

I would urge you to do at least the 1 hour test. You really do need to know how your body handles the glucose. If you fail it, evaulate with your doctor your chances of passing or failing the 3 hour (he/she might be able to tell based on how badly you fail the one hour.) The other issue is that if you fail to take it and you do have GD, your insurance company can refuse to pay for treaments for you and your child which are related to complications from the GD. In other words, cover yourself. My doctor did not make me take the 3 hour test on the 2nd and 3rd pregnancies - he realized the futility in it. He just assumed GD and treated me accordingly. It even involved a lot of insulin on the 3rd baby (who only came out 6 lb, 8 oz.)

I passed one hour test but still had to take 3-hour test. When I was 6-months pregnant, they estimated that the baby was already 5 lb heavy.:faint: The OB/GYN ordered the test just to make sure. I passed the test, but it really was unpleasant.

It was fine...when do I get the results?

I had gestational diabetes with both pregnacies. Yep I took both the one hour and the three hour test with each. I still remember having to promise the lab tech that I would immediately go across the street when we were done with the three hour and have a big meal. Still remember having a choc. milkshake - hey it was my last hurrah - I kind of knew the results would be that I had it. I do remember the tech allowing me into this back room that I could lay down on a sofa and nap between each test. It really wasn't that bad. I can say this even after having to go on insulin. You can do whatever is required because it is all to safeguard the health of your baby.

Good luck to all!

Pam
