Ok, I know it's not really fair, because they had 10 hours to tell their story instead of 2. But it still has to be mentioned, since it is, by a large margin, the best "war movie" ever produced.
For a standard 2 hour movie, I agree with Saving Private Ryan as number 1.
I wasn't a huge fan of Patton and it's been so long since I saw Apocalypse Now, that I can't remember much of it. But I'd definitely put Platoon in my top 3 list. Despite my mixed feelings now about Oliver Stone's political motivations, that movie had such a huge impact on me.
Another of my favorites, though there is no real combat to speak of, is Jarheads. Fantastic movie.
