Just returned on Sunday from 9 nights at WDW. The first 2 were in the Dolphin, and the last 7 were at BWV. BUT.....

My waitlist for NYE never came through (ressie made at 9:15 AM on Feb. 1), so we had to move rooms twice in the middle of our stay. It didn't make the trip very relaxing, but there was nothing I could do about it. :( So I have 3 room reports for those who are interested.

Rm. 4077 & 4079 - Standard 2BR. Spent 3 nights here. It is non-smoking and it is not a handicapped room. Nice and close to the elevator. Overlooks the front entrance. Can see the highest Illuminations fireworks from the balcony. This turned out to be our favorite of the 3 rooms. There were 2 balconies.

Rm. 4019 & 4021 - Preferred 2BR. Spent NYE here. It is non-smoking and is not a handicapped room. Quite far from the elevators. We couldn't figure out why this room was classified as preferred view. It overlooked the Dolphin and canal, and really nothing else of note. We had 3 balconies. Ironically, this was our least favorite room even though it was the only preferred of the three.

Rm. 4004 & 4006 - Standard 2BR. Spent 3 nights here. It is non-smoking and is not a handicapped room. Extremely far from the elevators. (There is only one room on each side of the hall that is farther! :p ) We thought that this room had a far better view than the preferred we were in previously. It overlooked Swan, Dolphin, canal, and Tower of Terror. We enjoyed being out on the balcony one evening and being able to distantly hear the Fantasmic music and watch the fireworks. We could even see Sorcerer Mickey up on the mountain at the end. This room had 3 balconies also.

Enjoyed the awesome weather, the pool, and of course the Christmas decorations. :D

Travelbug, We had 4008/4010 2BR on standard view points, was that an upgrade we did not know we got?

if you are looking at the BW parking lot - then it is standard view - everything else is preferred view.

if you main view is the tennis court and the corner is the BW parking lot - I think these are also preferred view. (should be standard)

so a canal view is definitely a preferred view.

hey I think it was probably much better than my preferred view - that silly main swimming pool - I learned to hate that clown!!!!

Jade - Actually, 4008 and 4010 ARE standard view according to the BWV front desk. We were originally assigned that room for our first 3 nights when we checked in, but I asked if there was a standard 2 BR closer to the elevators and there was.

4004 and 4006 overlook the canal, being right next to 4008/4010, and we definitely got that room on standard points. So I'm not sure how they decide what is standard and what is preferred. All I know is that in our case, the preferred we got had a far worse view than the last standard we got.

A WDW mystery! What makes a preferred a preferred? ;)

Just curious, how easy (or difficult?) was the move? Did you have to check out by 11 and then check in the next room later? Did the bellhop take your luggage back & forth?

Thanks for the info!

Was it last summer when the standards were being renovated? They assigned some of the Swan/Dolphin view rooms as standard then. Also, there seems to be some rooms that are borderline. Someone reported being assigned a preferred view across from the valet parking lot, which many had stayed in as standard.

I'm going to bump this thread back up because I too am curious about how BWV orchestrated your moves from one room to another. We're getting a 2br in August, then switching after 8 days to a 1br, and there's a possibility that it would include a room switch (because we're changing room size). WHile on the one hand that could be un-fun (moving crapola, like fridge stuff especially), it could also pay off (a dedicated 1 br vs. a lock-off, and a new view that gives a different perspective on the resort!)

SO how ugly was the move-around? :)

Sorry for the delay in answering your questions. I had internet trouble yesterday when I went to reply.

On each day we had to move, I went to the front desk around 10:30 to ask if by chance there was a room ready early. We hoped to be able to move our bags directly from one room to the other. No such luck either day. So we had to call bell services by 11:00, get them to store our bags and groceries, then go to the room when it was ready (one day 3:00 and one day 3:30), call bell services again, and have the bags delivered. There were 6 of us with quite a few bags, so we wound up shelling out 4 hefty tips. :(

It wouldn't have been so bad if we were only moving once, or if we had a long period of time in at least one of the rooms. But moving 2 days in a row right in the middle of a 7 night stay was the pits, to be very honest. All of the packing and unpacking didn't make for a very relaxing week. Those 2 days were not park days for us (we had decided to avoid NYE and NYD in the parks). One day we killed time at Downtown Disney, and the next day we camped out at the pool.

We all tried very hard not to complain about the moving, because it was nobody's fault. I had started calling at 8:58 AM on Feb. 1, and unfortunately didn't get through until 9:15. By then all the standard 2BR were booked, and the waitlist just never came through. :( But on the upside, at least we didn't have to change resorts. And hey, we were at Disney!! :teeth:

We had that very 2BR our last time at BWV on Standard points. It WAS a long way to the elevator, but we loved the room and the view!

Us too! I'm still mystified on why such a great view was classified as standard, and such a "blah" view (#4019 & 4021) was classified as preferred. Should have been the other way around. :p
