My son and I are going June 6-8 to Universal. We are debating staying offsite since it will be so expensive for an onsite hotel just for the FOTL and early admission. I am wondering that since we have 3 days, if we really need those to get what we want done.
We have never been before, he is 13. The big coasters will depend for me on whether or not my doc can get me some very effective motion sickness meds...

I have done a trip during a busy month without Express Pass. With three days you can get most everything seen and done. Just remember that you will be spending time in lines. Get there at opening and do the 'big' rides first thing each day.

Most people in the parks don['t have express so technically you don't "need" express. It all depends on your tolerance for standing in lines. If you're willing to spit up occasionally and do the single rider lines you can cut down on your wait during peak times for the headliner rides. Otherwise, like the Previous Poster said, get there at Rope Drop and hit the headliners hard the first couple of hours then slow down and see some shows and ride more high capacity rides. Then in the evening hit the rides hard again.

We are going 2-3 days the following week (we got the buy 2 get one free tickets) and our plan is to maybe see how the first day goes and determine if we want express pass for one of the following days. And also to determine if we all need them or not. I'm not big into roller coasters or 'thrill' ride so I doubt I will need one but I bet my brother, his wife and at least one nephew would enjoy it. That will save my dad a lot of money if we all don't need them lol
