Are sky lanterns allowed onboard to be used while in port (Nassau and CC)?

Is a Shutters' photographer always present with the characters or only during scheduled meet n greets?

I know I had at least one other question, but I can't think of it right now.

Sky Lanterns - No Idea

Shutters - Pretty much always there if it was a situation where you could get close to them (not a show) from what we saw unless it was something like the Dis Junior Wake up and Play or whatever it was called, don't remember a photographer but they also had a handler to hustle Goofy away when it was done.

Thank you! I will call DCL about the sky lanterns.

Shortly after boarding the ship in November, my wife and I had our picture taken with Mickey. There was not a Shutters photographer with him. Everyone in line just handed their camera or phone to one of the CM's with Mickey.

LOL. The lanterns from the movie Tangled. You light them and the hot air fills up the paper balloon and you let go and they float up to the sky.

Some also call them Wish Lanterns.

Yes! Thanks for the explanation and the pic. It's better when you use them at night; however, they can still be used during the day. They are used often on the beach. I have a few at home and I'd love to make a wish with DS on CC. I think he'll enjoy seeing it float in the air.

Just a guess...but I would assume "no" on the sky lanterns. Kites are not allowed, I don't see them allowing something actually lighted. A local community used to send those up on New Year's Eve as part of a big street party celebration, but they've recently been banned as causing too many fires when caught in trees. They are cool to see in the dark, though. But you likely won't be at Nassau or on CC in the dark.

Enjoy your cruise!

I was thinking the same thing, but thought it was worth asking. Thx

I was surprised to see kites weren't allowed. I'm still trying to figure out the big deal with allowing them and balloons onboard. What's the harm?

The harm is that the balloons and kites might blow overboard and injure the marine life. Similar to Sea World that doesn't allow the plastic rings that hold 6-pack drinks together -- too easy for an animal to get its neck stuck in one of the rings. DCL is very environmentally aware/sensitive.

Ok thx.

For the kites, I wouldn't think people would try to fly a kite onboard. So, no risk of a kite going overboard. I would think they would fly them at CC or another beach. People fly kites at the beach in the States, because it's very windy on the beach. But, no big deal. I have no interest in bringing a kite on the cruise. It was just a remark made purely out of curiosity. I think it's great "DCL is very environmentally aware/sensitive."

The wind gets very strong on deck, so to fly a kite would risk losing grip of it. Lose kite strings can also get stuck in flag poles, weather equipment, horns, etc. on the ship.

I would never think someone would attempt to fly a kite onboard a ship. Again, I was thinking about them flying the kite at the beach.

There is pretty much no room on CC to fly a kite without risking the kite popping someone in the head. The family beach gets very crowded, and if even 100 people brought a kits out of the thousands, I can't even imagine what a tangled, bothersome mess that would be.

Nailed it! Way too much risk on a busy beach. One crash into someone's head or someone's child's head and there would be H.E.Double Hockey Sticks to pay.
