My wife and I are taking our two boys (ages 7 and 5) to DL and will have three days of park touring. She wants us to do 1 day at UNiversal and just 2 at DL/DCA. I want all three at DLR so we can take advantage of one early entry day and I just love Disney and haven't been to DL since 2003. We will have a rental car (staying at HOJO) so transportation isn't an issue.

We will be traveling 9/13-9/17 with the first and last days travel days.

Will two days of DLR with park hoppers be sufficient? If we go to UH, should we go on Wed or Fri?

Have you checked out the rides at UH from their website? My vague memory is that they are more teen & adult oriented but it's been a while since I've been.

Yeah, it seems like there are a lot of 3D type (think Star Tours or Soarin') rides which the seven (almost 8 by the time of trip) year old will love buy I am not sure what the height requirements are. He should be fine as he is tall, but the five year old is our nugget (only 38 inches) so I guess I should check those first.

Jurassic Park - 46 inches
Transformers - 40 inches
The Mummy - 48 inches

Upper Lot
The Simpson - 40 inches

Forbidden Journey - 48 inches

The rides suitable for your younger child are

Yeah, that's not much for the little one. Good, now we can stay all three days at Disney. Thanks guys!

We are travelling at the end of August with our girls who will be 8 (her birthday is 3 weeks before) and 5 and are doing 2 days at DLR and 1 day at UH. I know my 5 yr old can't do as many rides as her sister BUT this is her 3rd trip to DLR and I haven't been to UH since 2003. If this is your kids' first trip to DLR then do all 3 days at DL/DCA and take advantage of your MM :)

I personally think only 2 days at Disneyland isn't enough. I feel like 3 is my minimum so I'm not running around and getting frustrated that I can't do everything I want to do. There is just so many ride, parades, shows, animations studios fireworks, world of color ect. but I know some times you get what get and it better than nothing at all.

I went to UH in March to see the Wizarding world in soft opening and I really enjoyed it. The theming there is awesome and I enjoyed the emersive experience of eating in the three broomsticks resturant, guzzling butter beer (not to much though that stuff is diabetes in glass) and pumpkin juice (actually tastes more like pumpkin spice apple juice, and apple juice is the number 1 ingredient) and doing the wand shop "show" and buying a wand (nearly 80 bucks consider yourself warned) and using the wand to make magic happen in store windows and watching other people put on a heck of a show with their own wands. I also really enjoyed Harry Potter and the forbidden journey and so did my son, who I had to force to ride it since it's hard for him to give new things a chance. Then we rode it 4 times lol. I felt like it was worth a day and really worth going to do. Sure some things are too big for your youngest but there is still plenty to enjoy-not just rides. Also there is a water play area for younger ones to enjoy. Also it's just no where near as crowded as Disney, and I felt like it was nice just to get away from the big crowds at Disney and be able to walk without feeling like I was in a stampede.

A lot of the rides are for older kids but I'm gonna guess that your little one is 40 inches or bigger since my niece was 40 when she was 5 and she's such a peanut. At least 40 inches opens up a lot.

Having grown up in SoCal for the last 30 years (before moving to the east coast), I would do all 3 days at DLR. With a young one, you won't be able to much at Universal. I had an annual pass at both DLR and Universal Studios for over 10 years for each one. Over the last 10-15 years, Universal Studios is now starting to ear all their rides and attractions towards the teenager/adult crowd. There is starting to be less and less rides/attractions for the young children generation. Sure there is the Shrek show and the silly land where the young children can play on the jungle gym equipment, but thats about it. I have a 5 year old and I wouldn't take them to Universal Studios until they are at least 10 where they can do more then two rides/attractions. I would spend all three days at DLR. Do one day at DL, one day at CA and the third day go back to both parks and do the little things that you couldn't do one the first two days. Plus the early entry and the fact that your hotel is so close means that you can be in the parks longer. There is also much more for your little one to do. Just my two cents....

If you do a three day pass (to include the EE) can you do a parkhopper for just one of the three days? This seems like the most logical plan that you described. I am curious what others here think. Thanks all!

I think you'll have so much to do in Disneyland that you'll be happy staying there for all three days! Plus, to me at least, vacation seems less stressful with no commuting to do. One of my favorite things about a Disneyland vacation is that you're only thinking about what fun thing to do next! I also think it'll be awesome for both kids, with much more for the 5 year old to experience.

Have fun!

You have to either buy the one park per day ticket or the parkhopper ticket. There is no pro-rated option for adding parkhopping to just one day of a multi-day ticket. I would recommend three days with parkhoppers. This allows for flexibility if crowds pick up at one location, a much-anticipated ride is broken down at the wrong time, you just want to eat somewhere in the park you're not in, or whatever other unanticipated spur of the moment situation arises.

No, you have to add the park hopper for all days.
