3 Course Menu - No substitutions

I think the option of the 3 course menu is a nice idea, especially if you get the bonus of an appetizer. Of course, this only works if you like what the limited choices are. Hopefully, you can still select this if you are on the dining plan during free dining.

I noticed that Chefs de France has more options now. I will probably be trying the onion soup, macaroni, and creme brule.

I know LeCellier has a chef's choice menu too, although not quite as pleasing to me.

Do any other restaurants have one?

I was wondering if anyone knows why they offer this? Are these cheaper choices or foods that they have more available of? Easier to prepare larger quantities of?

It's my opinion that the 3 course menus are there solely to encourage dining plan guests to order cheaper entrees.

If you look at the Le Cellier menu, anyone paying OOP choosing the three least expensive items on that menu would pay more ordering from the fixed price menu than they would if they ordered the same three items a la carte. Same thing if one orders the chicken entree, and the least expensive appetizer and dessert. For those two choices, there is no reason for anyone paying OOP to order from the fixed price menu.

The Le Cellier menu is a deal if you're on the plan and you would have wanted to order the items on the fixed price menu anyway. If you prefer one of the more expensive entrees, you're better off getting that and a dessert and paying for an appetizer.
