I am so frustrated, in one week I have had 3 online orders cancelled! One of them took 6 days before they cancelled it! I was waiting on delivery and it never came only to be cancelled. Yesterday at 7:00 am I ordered an Xbox game from target for store pick up today. I thought oh good I can mark that off my list and I don't have to chase sales all day to try and get it somewhere else. Then at 10:30 last night I got an email saying that item was no longer available for pick up at my store, in other words they sold it when they opened on thanksgiving. It said I should pick a different delivery method. It's available at a store near by but it won't let me choose that so the only other option is to cancel! I'm so mad because if I would've known that I would've had a friend pick it up for me while they were out, now I'm just out of luck!

That's so frustrating. I'm sorry.
Next time have it shipped to you if you can wait for it to arrive and there's free shipping. I stopped trusting in store pick up when I had a similar experience.
I don't think (just a personal theory) many stores are in good communication with their online stores so they don't actually hold items aside when you order online, at least not for a while and by then someone else could have bought it off the shelf.

Hope you find the canceled items at an even better price.

I feel your pain. Less than 24 hours after ordering several pairs of boots for DD at Payless online, I got an email that they cancelled my order due to lack of stock. Not a huge deal - but 5 days later, and they still have that money on hold on my debit card account. :(

I tried ordering for Kohl's online and couldn't change the colors on any of the items I wanted. Last year it worked like a dream. Very frustrating.

I am glad you posted this because I was thinking the opposite would work best, ie. pick up in store so you know you have vs. waiting on delivery.

I am just not an online shopper because I don't trust I'll get my items. I did order a few things, so we shall see.

OP, I would be ready to pull my hair out in your position! I wonder if the item is still on sale at Target, if available in store. Usually, their ads are Fri & Sat, while supplies last. I've never gone in the early open hours, but have been successful with Target later in the day. Good luck finding your game!

That sucks. It makes me nervous for my online orders. 90% of my stuff I ordered online, but could have easily grabbed in store as none of it was hard to find. I will be really upset if anything gets cancelled.

I've learned not to order any door busters I really want (or need) for in-store pickup. The stores will rarely fulfill those orders.

I noticed in store and online prices are often completely different so I have a feeling they have completely different inventory systems. I know Walmart recently had an early black Friday TV deal and many on slickdeals were reporting canceled orders for instore pick up. It just sounded like once the store was open, they sold the TVs to customers in the store so there were none left by the time they got around to fulfilling the online orders.

What games are you looking for? I would keep an eye on Amazon as they very often have great deals on games between now and Christmas. Saw a bunch on their "Black Friday" deals for today.

Yesterday I spent 3 hours online trying to figure out which Xbox one and Infinity 2.0 deal was the best and in stock. At 6:30, I told DH - I am done, I am going to Target (about 30 min away) Got to a very crowded store got the Xbox but out of Xbox infinity. So had to go to TRU. Got infinity there, plus 4characters. So, it was worth it- I saved easy $140 plus got a target gift card for $50. But I feel your pain. Last year, I ordered DH a jersey from Sports Authority on Black Friday - the order got cancelled on Dec 23!!!

I'm still not sure if I will get the Beats Solo HD headphones I ordered the other day from Staples.

I got a confirmation when I checked out but no email. Called CS and they told me nope, I wasn't getting it (and were rather rude about it too). The next day they took the money out of my checking account so I called CS again and was told yep, you're getting it and they are working on getting it shipped right now. A couple of days later the money was returned to my checking account so I'm assuming I'm back to nope, not getting it.

Through out this I have not received one email confirming the order or informing me they sold out before getting to it. I refuse to call CS again so I will just wait and see. If I get it, yippee....if I don't, oh well I didn't really need them anyway. Either way, I don't see me ordering from Staples ever again.

I went to order something at Walmart and it gave same-day in-store pickup option. So I went to the store and they do not even have the item, which is what I thought & why I was trying to order it on line.

So for the most part, I don't trust same-day in-store pick up.

Sorry OP, that's annoying. I ordered shoes from Target at the beginning of the week. They were unavailable online so I had to select to pick them up from the store. I knew they didn't have them in my size bc every time I went there, I looked at them and never found them. Not surprising I received an email that they were unavailable and I had to choose another option. This time they were available to ship so I guess it worked out better.

Thanks everyone, I finally found the game at best buy online for the same price so hopefully it doesn't get cancelled! I'm just frustrated because I've never had so many orders cancelled! I tried to originally ship it to my house but it wasn't an option. It sounds like I'm not alone having all these cancellations.

This year I have tried to order a few things and payment processed, etc and I get an email 5 days later the item is out of stock. I can't remember this ever happening to me with holiday shopping. How can they sell something that is out of stock.....frustrating :(

FWIW, it may not apply to your situation, but I am a consultant for a home party company and we are having stock issues right now too because of the labour issues going on on the west coast where the shipping containers are coming in. It could very well be affecting larger retailers too.

I had an order canceled from Walmart beginning of November. I'd ordered an e-gift card for DS's birthday. Any other day, he received the email of the gift in minutes. After 4 hours, I received an email that the order was canceled. "We can't verify payment type." :confused3 I did it again and it waited and waited for the next processing email to work. Took another 4 hours.

Academy Sports also cancels my orders. And they "forget" to send the email. Seems most of their inventory is in the stores, not a warehouse. So, when you order, the system says it is somewhere. Then it is up to a store clerk (or the warehouse for some items) to take it off the shelf. If the item sells out between your order and the clerk getting it, well, you know what happens next...You are meanwhile waiting for that shipping confirmation email because your payment has already been sent in and is pending. Takes a phone call to CSR to find out, "we canceled it x days ago and we sent you an email."
