We have our hearts set on 10 nights in a standard studio at AKL Jambo House (stayed in May 2015 and fell in love!). The dates would be May 6-16, 2017. It was initially supposed to be my husband, myself, our 8 year old son and our 10ish month old son (due in June 2016). My husband said something to my mother, and she mentioned coming along. I really don't want to try and find a 1 bedroom because our cost would almost double for the room. We are set on 10 nights because we had to cancel our 2015 trip due to my pregnancy. Anyone ever done 3 adults, a child and a baby in studio?

I haven't and would not, especially at AKV because there is not the trundle bed for your child, and your mother and child would be sharing a double pull out. I suppose there is room for the pack and play where the double sinks are. However, AKV studios do not have a lot of storage.

If I was going with a studio I would try OKW for the 2 real queen beds, or I would go for the Poly studio with the trundle bed and the split bathroom.

Whatever you decide, I wish you a wonderful vacation!

I would make sure your DH is really, really comfortable with your mom. We did 7 nights in a regular AKL room with my MIL, FIL, me, DH and my 2 year old. It was a lovely trip with lots of memories, but my ILs are actually like 2nd parents to me. Even so, there were still a few bathroom privacy and occupancy issues to work out.

We haven't stayed at AKL but we did spend 5 days in a studio at BLT, with two adults and a 3 y/o. It was fine for the three of us but I can't imagine adding another adult and child to this room. I hear what you're saying about a 1 bedroom-maybe you could get two studios?

Legally, you can do it.

MIL and your older child will share a double fold-out sofa. Everyone will be tripping over the pack and play. You will not want to lounge around in the room, and naps may be an issue with everyone on top of each other.

It will be tight, and after 10 days everyone may hate each other.

I would be most concerned with the bathroom situation.

Jambo has the tub and toilet in their own room, while the sink is somewhat open to all. I think that would make getting ready awkward with an extended family.

Maybe not an option for you but if your mom wants to come have her pay the difference between a studio and one bedroom or for a second room of her own. I am a grandma. If I wanted to come along I would never presume to push into a small room with the rest of the family. I would pay for a two bedroom so everyone has space and maybe ask my kid to pay what they would have paid anyway. Or get my own room.

I think the extra cost for a room would deter her from coming. $1500 for 10 days which includes DDP and a 10 day park ticket is a lot better than $2700. This might be the only chance she would have to go with us, since she spends so much money traveling following my sister around for hockey tournaments out of the country. We are a hockey family, so we've been away for long weekends before together...standard hotel rooms with 3-4 people but no baby. I'm fairly used to being cramped you could say. Do the studios have a pack n play? It's been a long while since I've had a little one. I guess i was hoping someone would say...you're at disney! It's not that bad lol plus, I was hoping that having a babysitter would outweigh sharing a room

You'll have a pack and play in the studio. Just ask her how she feels about sleeping with your eight yr old son. And ask your eight yr old son how he feels about sleeping with grandma. After you discuss it with your husband.

You can get a pack and play.

I would not do it. I did one night with DH, FIL, and two infants back in the day at BWV and it was awful. Is there a snorer? Will this keep someone from getting their sleep? Does your little one kick? Will grandma prefer to sleep in her own bed? I understand the expense concern. Maybe grandma can stay at the AS and you can meet up during the day. Does grandma know she will be expected to babysit? When my in laws or parents come I never ask them to watch the kids. They are on vacation too and they may want to get out. If they offer, it is usually one evening.

I would shorten the trip or change resorts or plan the next trip wth grandma.

No snoring. We've traveled before, and she has shared with my son. She most definitely would babysit for an evening. The only reason she would go is for my kids :) we will see. She has a month to decide.

I spent 3 nights in a standard room with my mom and then 13 month old. That was long enough. I can't imagine going with my mom, husband, older DD and a baby in that room (well honestly any standard room for that matter). That's 2 bedroom territory IMO...especially for 10 nights! That's a lot of clothing and a lot of people stuffed into a room.

We sleep 5 in a studio without any problem. 2 adults, 2 teens(adult size) and a tween. Have a great trip!

Thank you for giving me some hope :) I might try a split with OKW for a little extra space for half of the trip, but my son LOVES AKL JAMBO. Happy Friday!

Honestly, no I wouldn't do it. I am trying to talk myself into staying in a studio with just DH and my DD. It is not a big room and the one bathroom/lack of storage coupled with the fact you're staying for 10 days, would make it a no-go for me. I would def upgrade to a one bedroom. Have fun on your trip!!

We did a studio with our 6 year old son last year. It was perfect. You will not have any problems. Don't second guess it. You will love it.

I agree that 2 adults and i child in a studio is fine but the OP was asking about 3 adults, an 8 t/o child and an infant, presumably with pack and play, stroller, and all the other things needed when traveling with a baby. AND for 10 days!

I am the poster. I was letting her know we've done what she is doing with one adult & 1 child and were completely fine because she indicated she was hesitant doing it with a smaller party. All is well, and I appreciate all input! Thank you!!
