3/24/07 Western Magic

We definitely want to see Stingray city in the Caymans (although today's news about the Crocodile Hunter makes you think twice - what a tragedy with 2 little kids). Will you be travelling with another adult - or is it just you and the kids? I'm a single mom - this is a really good choice for a trip I think. Of course, It'll be be even better if my daughter likes the lab more than she liked the club. I got paged a lot last time . . . .

It's just me and the kids -- we did it on the Wonder and I thought it was a perfect vacation; some time as a family and plenty of time apart doing our own thing.

I have snorkled with rays at Discovery Cove and love them -- I will definitely plan to do the stingray city and snorkling on Grand Cayman. My girls and I love snorkling and anything having to do with animals. It's sad what happened to Steve Irwin, but I do believe it was an incredible freak accident.

And by the way, I know everyone's kid is different, but my youngest daughter (9) loved the lab and wanted to be there all the time. In fact, I had planned for us to have some family time on Castaway Cay and she asked to go to the lab area instead! I was never paged once by either her or my middle daughter (11) the entire cruise.

you're lucky - my daughter paged me twice during a massage and twice during brunch at Palo. I knew she was fine, so being the evil mom that I am, I ignored them. She's actually changed quite a bit since then, so I'm hoping she'll meet some other kids and let herself have fun in the lab. Re excursions - we hope to do a lot of snorkeling - we went to La jolla this summer and kayaked and snorkeled with a bunch of leopard sharks, so we should be ok with the stingrays. The other excursion we were considering is the Dolphin encounter in Cozumel, now that its back up after the hurricane. We've never been to Castaway Cay, since our last cruise was in Mexico, but my dd really wants to go parasailing. I love thinking about this stuff . . Its way better than work.

Cosumel is striking me as a place that I could spend three different days with all the excursions I'd like to try. So far I'm really torn.

We did the dolphin swim at Discovery Cove this summer, and it was a real treat, so I can't imagine you can go wrong with that one.

I can't believe you were paged twice while at the spa and your daughter is still getting to go on another cruise! Hopefully she'll really enjoy the Oceaneer's Lab and you will get more quiet time on your own this time.

Stopped at Cayman on cruise years ago! Do they stilldo the tour of Hell and the Turtlr farm . They were both so cool!! Dunn Falls was awful I was scared to death Never again oops that was Jamaica!! No Problem!!!!

OK,
it seems like either no one can find the thread, or there's no one on the boat...lol. I'm going to post a new thread so more people can find it.... it will be: 3/24/07 Magic

:) Minnie

Hi! If you are going on the March 24, 2007 Disney Magic sailing, this is the official thread (we had another thread, but no one was finding it!).

so post if you're also on this cruise!!! It's only a little over 6 months away!!!

looks like we have 2 threads going now - further up is a post by Minnie 328 -reviving the thread we started months ago - that didnt go anywhere. Bellelinus- trust me, a condition of ever setting foot on the ship again was that mom gets some time by herself -without being paged!! So where in Ny are you guys from -we're from Denver.

Hey minnie - there is another thread that got started just last week - look below for a post by Bellelinus. we'll have to get everyone on a single thread!!

Hi!
I just started a new thread last night for this cruise!!! It's 3/24/07 Magic. I picked this because when someone searches, that's what they usually search....If you all want to hop over there and someone PM a mod to shut this one and the old one down, that would be good so that we're all on the same page. :)
see ya soon!

and Bellelinus, we will have 11 traveling with us:

4 Adults
2 teen girls (one will be 15, and I will be turning 15 on the cruise!!)
1 teen boy (13)
1 10 year old girl
1 10 year old boy

we're all on deck 5 early seating! :)

Hi all - I posted on the old thread but trying to stay up to date. We'll be on the 3/24/07 Magic ! Me, DH, DS (7), DD's (4 - twins), DGP's (my parents) - we're all from Southern California. We have a family from Illinois coming as well - I think their kids are 10 & 7 now. Can't wait ! Nice to meet you.

Hi!
11 of us will be traveling together:

(all of the kid's ages are at the time of the cruise)

2 DGP (my grandparents)
4 Adults
2 teen girls (15, and I am 14, turning 15 on Pirate Night!)
1 teen boy (13)
1 Oceaneer Lab girl (10)
1 Oceaneer Lab boy (10)

All 11 of us are in the cat. 8's on deck 5.

If you see Skibum on these boards, that's my dad!

Also, I was just on the 3/25/06 Magic this year! It was also a western, so if you have any questions from a kid's point of view, feel free to ask or check out my detailed trip report!

Hi everyone! Just checking in to keep the thread alive. Bellelinus - I'm sure its a very somber day in NY today, as it is everywhere, of course, but certainly not the same as Manhattan. :sad1:

I predict we will have a lot of people joining in well before March . . .

Let's talk excursions: I am thinking of doing a stingray city/snorkle trip booked on my own in Grand Cayman (I'm looking at Captain Marvin's), and Xcaret Eco through DCL in Cozumel. The transport to Xcaret looks a little hairy (bus to other side of Cozumel, ferry to the mainland, perhaps another bus to Xcaret?), and I'd feel more confident knowing I had the DCL transport looking out for us if there are delays there.

Pclaire, were you interested in the dolphin encounter? What have you heard about it?

I think we definitely have to do the dolphin encounter in cozumel. there is a "Royal dolphin Swim" where you get pushed by them and play with them that sounds really cool. Its more interactive than what disney offers, so we might just book it on our own. In Grand Cayman, we're thinking exactly the same as you - stingray city and snorkel, again booked on our own. As long as you don't book an excursion late afternoon, i have no probblem not going through disney -when we went to Mexico, those excursions were less crowded abnd more fun. The only thing we cant decide about in Grand Cayman is whether we also go to the turtle farm - my daughter loves turtles, but it sounds kind of rushed and touristy to me. Based on what you read on the cruise critic board, do you think Captain Marvins is preferable to Captain Bryan's?

They both sound good -- I was thinking Captain Marvin's because it seemed to have more snorkeling time, but I'll do more research early in 2007 to decide for sure . . .
