3/26/04, Friday, Castaway Cay
Because we turned back the clocks last night, it wasn't hard to get up on time. It was really neat to see CC getting closer and then to dock. I couldn't see the docking as I was on Starboard side but I could see CC and it looked wonderful . We had our Romantic Champagne breakfast delivered around 8:15am. We chose sparkling cider instead of Champagne and orange juice as well. Hot food brought for breakfast was great and my DH and I enjoyed some alone time on the verandah looking at CC while eating. We ordered enough for the kids so I woke them up and got them to eat a bit. I packed up the cooler with bottles of water and our sandtoys ect. No need for food today
. I got the kids sunscreened and into their suits and shorts. I was ready to go and it was nearly 9am. I told my DH that I would carry the snorkel gear to the beach and he could bring the kids and the cooler at his leisure. He liked this idea as he didn't want to rush, he likes to dawdle and take his time. I took the elevator to deck 1 and was first in line, can you believe my luck?
While DH was relaxing in a hammock, the kids were playing in the sand while I went to snorkle and find mickey under water. I used my own snorkel gear and Disney's vest. I went to each buoy but never found mickey. Wind was really strong and blowing away from shore. I started to think I was never going to get back to my family. I was so thirsty when I finally made my way onto shore. So much for going back out to find Mickey, I'm not going out there again. I went back to my family and told DH he could take his turn. Off he went to snorkel. DD, DS and I relaxed in a hammock and I read my book. DS actually took a little nap next to me. Both kids liked rocking back and forth and finding little shells under us. Total relaxation..............ah. DH came back with 3 exposures left on the underwater camera, he had left with 20. I didn't see that many fish out there, what did you take pictures of ?? He isn't sure as he doesn't wear contacts and his glasses weren't on. He is pretty sure he got some great pics of mickey though, well, there's that! I took some pics of the beach with my 3 pics I had left. DD had to go to the bathroom so we went to find it. I also found the shop. I bought a few things and a Castaway Cay license plate for my car. I bought postcards for the friends and family I had written out addresses for on address labels. I also had preprinted address labels for us. I wrote a quick note on each and then slapped on the labels. Quick and easy. DH and DS went for food but DD wasn't ready to eat yet. Ten minutes later she was so we joined them. Vegeburgers were good and the cookies great. I liked the cookiedough ice cream very much, such a small cone full though, I would have liked a bowl full
I had brought a blowup lounge chair for the kids, red and shaped like a lobster, DD had picked it out at Walmart. DH and I blew it up and it proceeded to dump each child that sat in in into the cold ocean
. So much for my grand plan - a cheaper float that won't get mixed up with all the others. Try not getting used and a DD that pointed at the blue floats and wondered why she didn't have one of those. She didn't point and wonder until it was almost time to pack up or I would have gone ahead and rented one.
DH wanted to go back to the ship and get our good camera so he could take photos of us at the photo spots on our walk back and some of us on the beach. I didn't want him going all the way back but thought he could also mail the postcards at the same time so we wouldn't have to worry about the postoffice closing before we could get there. He took the postcards and off he went. While he was back on the ship he took a photo of our deserted hall way to show how long it was. He came back all happy with himself but had not mailed the postcards - sigh. He couldn't find the post office so he thought, no big deal, we would do it on the way back. I went off to do that, barefoot. I forgot to put my watershoes back on. I did fine but when I got to the postoffice I found that I only had $4 on me. I had enough to mail all the postcards but the one to us, so we just brought it home with us for the scrapbook.
I got into the water with my kids while they wore their life vests and floated around me. DS went snorkeling with his Dad and got to see Mickey for himself. Around 3pm the sun started to feel hot on my skin. I worried a bit about sun burn. I started to pack up. We walked back along the trail and took some photos. We noticed some characters just outside of the ship. The kids chose Mickey for their photo opp.
We got the kids bathed super fast and into dinner clothes for DH to drop them off at the club by 4:20pm for the kids show rehearsal. This was 20 min. late but they didn't feel they had missed anything important. I showered while DH was gone and we were able to be dressed for dinner before the 5pm kids show (or otherwise know as Discover The Magic). Our DD ended up front and center on the stage and DS was center but second row, right behind a boy just his height, hard to see his face. DS loved being in the show and took all his hand motions very serious. He had learned how to sign for a portion of the show and he still remembers how. DD smiled when she spotted us and waved. Both loved Mickey comming out, DS got a "four" as Mickey left. This was a fun show and the kids like the t-shirts they got. Worthwhile for the little ones.
We went next to shutters to pick out and buy our photos. We picked out 10 6X8's and had already bought 1 8X10. Line was not too bad but it was definately more crowded than any other time that week. We went to the club to pick up the kids. We were already dressed for dinner so we went straight to PC. We enjoyed our last meal and our neighboring table seemed to be in a good mood as well. DD went to "her club" as soon as possible but DS stayed with us. We went back to our room and there were rose petals and towel swans kissing near a petal heart. We took photos and moved the swans to DD's bed so she could see them when she got back from the club. I needed the bed to pack on. We moved the petal heart as well and DS reshaped it for her to see on her bed. It was lovely, not a romantic night for it but still enjoyable.
We were outside of the doors to the show when it occured to me that I couldn't watch it and be able to take the kids to the 'Til we Meet Again at 10:15pm. I explained this to DH that I was going to have to go back to the room and pack us up. DH and DS stayed to watch and I rushed back. I had everything for the 3 of us nearly packed up when they came back after the show. DS was very introspective and told me he had nearly cried when they sang Remember the Magic, even saying the words now made him get tears in his eyes. He was very moved, I hated missing that with him. DH began to pack his things and DS and I went to pick up DD and go to the atrium. We stood right by the rope and waited. I can see why some folks would prefer standing on upper levels for better photos, would make for better pictures. The kids loved being right on the ground floor though. The characters came down those stairs and ran past us, it was very exciting. We happened to be right in line for Belle in her yellow dress. DD got picked up and hugged and loved by Belle. Belle was in no hurry to put her down, I worried for all of the other little girls but was thrilled for DD. DS got to pick next and he wanted a picture of Pain and Panic but he didn't need to wait in line to see them only wanted to snap their photo. I lifted him up and he snapped and was happy. DD chose next, Stitch. As we were waiting DS decided he could not wait, and he ran off to take Mickey's photo. Stitch hugged DD and we crossed the crowded room to find DS. He wasn't by Mickey and I got worried. There comes DS being carried by a kind CM looking around the room, I saw them before they saw me. He had taken a quick pic of Mickey and then crossed the room back to Stitch, we had missed each other. No more splitting up. We just stood there right in front of the stairs and waited for the end. It came soon and the kids loved it. DS snapped off a few more photos and then his roll was done. DD collected "dust" off of the floor and put it in my camera bag.
We went to guest services to see if our pillowcases had been done, they were done and wonderful. These pillowslips are one of our favorite things from the cruise, I should have had one done for myself
. While waiting in line at guest services a lady spotted me. A friend of a friend, she had been to my house with her kids last summer to swim. There she was on the same exact cruise as me and we didn't know. What a small world. Sadly, she said that her family had been ill with the flu for half of the cruise
. I feel sorry for them. Can't help but feel grateful, though, that I didn't know they were on the cruise or I would have made plans to meet with them at the begining of the cruise. Perhaps we would have fallen ill as well. Funny the way things work out.
We went up to our room and DH had just finished packing his things and all suitcases had been put in the hall. DD loved the rose petals and started being flower girl with them and putting them into a ziplock bag to keep. I had packed in my day bag our outfits for tomorrow and our bathing suits. We quickly changed into our suits and went up to deck 10 to try out the hot tubs. We had both to ourselves for the next hour. We had pizza before we fell asleep late and spent.
