3/14/09 Spring Break Aboard the Magic

It's cold and rainy here, yuck and that is supposed to be baseball season :( I was just popping on to do a few things, check out airfare, and check for a grade in my class I finished yesterday, not there yet. I am so an instant gratification person.

I'm still not to excited about the airfare I'm finding :( and I don't want to book anything not knowing where we'll be living at the time.

Hope everyone has a great day. I was putting some lotion on (Spa H20 from the cruise) and my daughter said, mommy that smell reminds me of disney world! It was so cute! I told her me too and that is why I use it.

Hi Redmomof4!

We are from West Des Moines also! We are also on the March 14th cruise. You will love the ports of call.

Read my post about airfare the past two days on the DCL cruise board. Talk about sticker shock. You know about how close we are to the airport and how people book early to make sure they have seats out of Des Moines. Our first quote for the Spring Break trip was $1000 pp. Even when we did the checking ourselves we found the same prices. We did end up with Delta through Cinn. Ohio at just under $600.

I understand your problem of to book or not. You don't know where you will be living. Flying out of Chicago will save you a lot of money for sure.

Good Luck in selling your home. I know the market is not the best in Des Moines.

This is who is in our family: Dave DH, Kathy (me), and our daughter Stephanie age 16. She attends Valley HS.

I am just happy to say, we have our air locked in for March! Now I can relax.

Kathy,
My name is Shawna. I think we chatted on here last year when I was contemplating booking spring break this year. I have just realized that the kids are getting too old to take out of school for vacations (my opinion) and I will be in grad school so this really is the only option. My eldest is a junior at Valley this year. I wonder if he knows Stephanie. His name is Christian. He is a singer (Iowa Youth Choir, Valley Singers, Acapella Choir, Choralation-show choir), at least that is what he likes to do. He certainly didn't get it from me. I can't carry a tune in a Longaberger basket

How exciting to be on the ship with someone from home! I'm thrilled.

I haven't been keeping a good enough eye on the airfare. I'm going to have to look daily. It is so hard though not knowing where we will be. But I guess if I'm considering driving to Chicago from Iowa City, I could certainly drive to Des Moines also.

Thanks for the wishes for our home selling. I hope to have the sign out this weekend. I was waiting for one more thing to finish. I've been cleaning again all morning and needed a break so I jumped on the dis!

Can't wait to meet you. What stateroom are you guys in this time? We are in 7505 and 7507.

So I couldn't edit the title of my one I messed up and put 2008, so I am reposting it correctly. If any moderator could delete the other thread that would be great.

"I didn't see a thread for this cruise yet so I thought I'd start one. It is less than a year away and I am already getting excited. The kids don't know about this trip yet. I don't know how long I can keep it quiet. I'm aiming for at least Christmas time.

This will be our fourth Disney cruise, but our first trip aboard the Magic. We will be in connecting rooms 7505 and 7507. We've never been on the seventh deck so we are excited for a new ship, new deck! We'll probably try to tack on a day or two at the World but it depends on school schedules for all of us.

We are a family of six and at the time of the cruise we will be Jamey (37), Shawna (35), Christian (17), Conor(11), Blake (8), and Isabelle (6). All the kids' birthdays are in the Spring so they will be very close to turning the next age. I will be on Spring Break from my first year in Grad School so it will be much needed I am sure. I am going to school to be a Nurse Anesthetist starting in the fall. We are currently trying to get our house ready to sell so we can move closer to the University.

I know this thread won't see a lot of business for a bit, but I wanted to get one started. Please let me know if I am missing one somewhere."

My son and I might be a couple of doors down from you and your family. I have to look it up but our room number is 7501 i think..anyway wanted to say hi. This will be our first cruise and I am so excited. I have not told my son yet either. Wanted to check out the info on the fish extenders and exchanging small treats to others on the same trip as us. Is this where this gets together? Let me know. I am obviously new to this and just checking things out.

GoofyTraci, welcome aboard, Good luck keeping your secret, I have not told the girls yet that we are going back for another spring break cruise, but it is hard, they keep asking when they can go on a cruise again., you will have a great time , it is such a great holiday. I just picked up some pictures I had taken on the underwater camera from March and I wish I was on Castaway Cay, it is better than you can imagine.

No one has mentioned as Gift Exchange, I am organzing one for the cruise I am going on in December, so I do not mind organzing one for this cruise. .

For those who do not know a Gift Exchange is where a group of people help spread the Disney Magic by leaving small gifts in Fish Extenders outside the cabin door. There are many different ways, some groups leave one gift any time to all the participants, and other groups split into small groups and leave several gifts over the cruise to the smaller group, to help reduce the time delivering the gifts. I suggest we see what the interest is and then decide the finer details. I imagine if you have a large amout of people participating that delivering all over the ship could be time consuming, and the smaller groups would be better.

If anyone is interested let me know and I will start a list of people interested.

Happy Mothers day to all the Mothers.

Lisa

I would so be interested in a gift exchange. I don't have a fish extender yet but will get one for sure. maybe I can sucker my mother into making me one!

We too are trying to keep it a secret and it is so hard when they ask about the ship and want to go back not to tell them it's only ten months away. I was talking about airfare to my hubby today and my 8 year old picked up on it and said "to where"?

goofytraci,
Hi! Look forward to meeting you.

Shawna

We're up for the gift exchange....could someone explain how you "make" a fish extender. We'll be in cabin 6049! I can't wait!

It's our first cruise (Did I say that already?) and I'm already reading my Passporter every night! We haven't told our dd's yet, but I think my dd6 overheard me talking to a friend about it. They are still young enough that they don't quite know what a "cruise" is. As long as it is Disney, they are up for anything!

the dis rocks...it is so nice to meet/get to know people that you will be on the samr cruise with. I am so excited. I have been reading on here everyday looking for some planning help. I think i will have someone i know make the fish extender for our family. I looked on e-bay yesterday and they sell them for thirty dollars.

Thanks for all of your help and can't wait to get to know you guys more.

Hi Shawna,

I do remember talking to you on the DIS. Steph is in the band at Valley. I ask her if she knows a junior named Christian who is in the choirs.

We did get the air booked. I am surprised at the number of responses my air post got. A lot didn't read my post correctly, driving to another city to fly out of is not in our cards. You know how great driving 10 min. to the Des Moines airport is, three hours? Now for you moving, you probably will have to drive a bit to fly but then you get a break on the cost per person--or at least you should get a break.

We are back in 8548. I swear that room must have been built for us. This will be our 4th cruise in that room. We have never requested it either, we just seem to get it assigned to us. It is a cat. 3 but not the nice midship cat 3. One plus with that room, it is quite compared to the midship cat 3s.

Tell Christian this about Steph. She has earned the nickname "the Disney lover". She wears Disney theme park and Disney Cruise Line shirts to school most of the time.

We go Disney in 4 weeks to celebrate Steph's 16th birthday. It couldn't get here fast enough. Our weather has been bad this year. The winter from Hades and now the spring is not much better. We get a nice day then bam, it is nasty. Mother's Day was terrible with cool temps and the wind. Today is our nice day this week, high of 73, then it drops back down to low 60's. I'm could really move south, 50 years of midwest winters is enought for me! The March cruise is a wonderful trip to look forword to every year.

Good Morning!

Looks like I will be on this cruise too. Right now we are booked on the repositing cruise in August but one of my daughters decided to get married so all my cruise money went to her wedding :guilty:

I will be booking this cruise so my college age daughter can join us.

Hoping to meet some new friends!

Were you the person the booked the Hyatt with anytime certificates for this cruise, if it was how did you do it? I am thinking it would be best to fly in the day before and staying at the Hyatt would be so nice.

Thanks

Hey Lisa,

I called Hyatt first to see if the dates were avail for that night. They only offer so many at that rate. The first time I called I was told no, then No again, then I called the next week and was told yes it was avail. So I booked two rooms at the Choice Level Stay certificate rate. I was told to bring it to the hotel to pay for the room. The room is 200+ per night but the stay certificate is 135.00 + 6 dollars for shipping. You do not have to pay the difference in price. But be sure to ask for the choice stay certificate when calling to book the room to see if the they still have rooms for that night with that rate. I booked the room then logged on to Hyatt stay certificate and purchased the certificate and it should be here any day now. I was not willing to get the certificate untill i knew that it could be used. We will be flying down the day before and staying at the HYatt. I am so excited and really didnt want to feel rushed to get to the port and with the airline with canceled flights and all I just really didnt want to chance it. I have the actual code for the certificate if they give you problems trying to book, so PM me if they are asking for it. Sorry my message was long, just wanted to explain the best I could so you hopefully wont have a problem trying to book your room. Let me know if I can be more of a help. Sending u some pixie dust b/c I sure needed it pixiedust: they made me :furious: the first couple of calls. I kept thinking I am booking 9 mnths away !!! Good luck
