My favorite thing about the Disboards is the photos that people post. So, on this thread, I will share a bunch of photos that I took on a quick, surprise, quality control inspection of the Fort on 3/13/09. My two youngest DDs had a light school day on Friday, so we took a mental health day and headed to WDW. We started our day at Hollywood Studios, where we got to see the American Idol Experience. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. We also hit Animal Kingdom, and squeezed in a very brief visit to the Fort at around 5 pm, which is when these photos were taken. On this thread, you will see photos of the construction work on the pool, 1400 loop, and 600, plus a few hidden surprises.
I posted about 20 of these photos on the pool update thread, but I am going to repost all of the photos in the order that they were taken so that you can look at them in context. I think you will end up looking at about 130 photos. Hopefully, that will hold you until I can get back to the Fort.
Since the pool construction is clearly going to extend past the previously announced 3/20/09 completion date, it looks like I am going to have to line up some more surprise inspections.
This first shot was taken over the fence just outside the arcade door. This is the best place to get a good overview of what is going on at the pool. No sneaking around required:
This photo is taken from the same spot, just looking more to the left:
These two photos are taken from the same spot, now looking all the way to the left, toward the restrooms. There is something leaning against the fence here. It looks like maybe a cut piece of Formica. The pool restrooms were redone recently, and were already in pretty good shape. I cant figure out what this cut up piece of building material might be for. Any theories?:
As some of you may know, there are picnic tables here on the porch area of the Meadow swimming pool. Someone had pulled a table right up to the fence (Ynottony99?), which provided another vantage point for some photos. So, here we are on the porch, on the picnic table, looking into the pool construction project. First, we look to the right, where we can see the slide, and the new vertical support beams that are going up:
Now, we are looking straight ahead from this point. Here we can see that big portions of the deck have been poured. The deck has a brownish/yellowish color. I think the pool deck at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is similar in color. I like it:
Here, we see that there are still portions of the deck that have not been poured. Also, right in the middle of this photo, you can see some rectangular objects sticking up from the ground. I have not been able to figure out what these are, and why they are there. They look like control boxes that are sometimes installed in the ground for sprinkler systems and such. But they are bigger. And, I dont know why they need to be here. I am still wondering whether this might be something to do with the splash zone that was announced as being part of this project:
We are still on the picnic table here, but looking all the way to the right. See all the stakes with the pink ribbons? We will take a closer look at those as we go around the perimeter of the project. Also, the pool rule sign, which had been carefully wrapped during the construction, is now unwrapped for some reason, even though the work in this area is clearly not done. It also looks like two metal shower towers, which were visible in previous photos, have been removed:
We have now left the porch area, and walked around behind the restroom building, and are now outside the fence by where the hot tub is installed. Looking at this photo, you can see that there are curved wood forms in place for concrete to be poured around the hot tub. Also, notice the tall PVC pipe. This probably is going to be for a shower. There always seem to be showers near hot tubs:
This is just another look at the hot tub. Using the wheelbarrow as a reference for size, you can see that this hot tub is not very big. Unfortunately, I think this will cause some problems in the future. Also, notice that there is a black plastic control box resting against the edge of the hot tub. I am not sure where that is going to go?:
This is a shot from the same spot, looking at the extension built on the side of the building. There is some equipment in here. I am wondering about why this extension is so big, as the only new features that appear to have been added are the hot tub and slide. Do they need this much room for the equipment for just those features? Or, perhaps, there will be a splash zone after all, and equipment is needed for that as well.
Heres a look at the slide and water tower from this side of the construction project. The PVC pipe that you see is the pipe next to the hot tub. This angle makes it look really big:
Here are some close ups of the hot tub. You can see the previously mentioned control box, and also see that there is no final finish surface yet in the pool or hot tub:
Now, we are at the corner of the construction fence closest to the tennis courts. Here is a shot of the water tower from this angle:
And, this is an over-the-fence shot of the stairs in the shallow end. Looks like the tile work is done:
