We are considering going to US/IOA after our cruise (which is 1/3-8). We'd be heading from Jacksonville. I'd like to spend 2 days there so thinking 1/2 day 1-8, full day 1-9, half day 1-10, then hit the road to head home. Does this sound doable? Or is US crazy busy in the afternoon??

The Undercover Tourist crowd calendar has all the days as closing at 7, so your being there until 8 or 9 isn't going to happen.

For some reason they list US as red on Thursday, not sure why but they list all the parks in general as a green 3 out of 10. You can see all the details on the site yourself.

I personally doubt the second week in January any of the parks will be crazy busy during the week. Kids will be back in school, later in the month you will be dealing with shorter holidays but that week should be fine. If you show up and it is crazy busy can always buy the Express pass. My bet is except for HP areas, most of the park will be walk-on.

As pp mentioned, universal parks close much earlier than Disney. That week the closing hour is 7pm.ALso though the parks wont be crazy-busy, the 2nd week of JAn starts the influx of very large tour group season.
