I was really wondering first if I should request a 2nd floor room or a 3rd floor room??? My ds who will be 8, is really looking forward to seeing lots of animals! Any good room/savanna to request? :teleport: Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, 3rd floor is nice cuz the lobby is also on the 3rd floor. We had a (I "think) Arusha savannah view and it was ALLLLLL the way at the end of the hallway which is a long walk, but then again it was pretty quiet at the end of the hall, so I would actually recommend being far from the lobby, yet still on the same floor. We saw LOTS of animals.

Just asked my DD6 if she remembered our room number...thinking there is NO WAY she would remember, and she just told me it was 3377...and that sounds right.

I've stayed on both the 3rd and 4th floors of AKL. The 4th floor was a nice expansive view of the savannah; the 3rd floor was more intimate. I was happy with both, but I think a child might prefer the 2nd floor as you are real close to the animals. I THINK the 2nd floor would be on the same level as the restaurants and pools (3rd floor is lobby level).

Enjoy.

That is a good point, sjw. I am not sure you can access the restaurants and pool from the rooms...I almost think you would have to go "up" a floor , to floor 3, then back down to floor 2 to get to the restaurants and pool. I do not know why I "think" this, I just cannot recall seeing where the rooms would be at in reference to Boma or Jiko. I would actually prefer floor 2 if you could access the pool and restaurant easier. Maybe someone more familiar with AKl can give us a difinitive answer...or I am sure we could find out on the AKL fact thread.

All of the restaurants and the pool are on the first floor. You cant get to any of them from your room without going down stairs or an elevator. The zebra trail is more convenient to the pool and to Mara. The second and third floors near the lobby on most of the trails are noisy. There is an elevator about 1/3 of the way down the Zebra trail that you can take to the first floor and exit to the pool and restaurants.

As far as animal viewing is concerned, I think you would want to be at least 2 buildings out from the lobby if your room faces the interior savannas so that Arusha Rock does not block your view of part of the savanna. We were in the third building and thought the view was good. Being out at the end of the trail might give you a slightly better view, but it is a long walk to the lobby. Our room was on the second floor and we thought we had a good view of all of the animals. There isn't much of a difference between the second and third floors except that the third floor is most convenient to the lobby (same level)

Thank you for clearing that up, Disneymom! Makes sense (D-OH!) that the pool is on the first floor! Don't know why I didn't figure that out! LOL!

My vote is for the 2nd floor - nothing beats the giraffe that was looking in our room!
