Okay...we went to Universal Jan. of 09 while staying at Old Key West at Disney. We spent two days there doing both parks. Now we are planning a trip back to Disney (driving for the first time since 2002..we always fly) so I thought maybe a 2 or 3 night stay at Hard Rock. I have heard the resorts are nice and the Express Pass is awesome too. Since it is summer....HEAT/Crowds we thought staying onsite would be worth it. However.........it seems to me that the Harry Potter section does not have that much. I expected more. Do others feel this way?? So I have a hold on a military discounted package for 3 nights at Hard Rock in a deluxe queen with pull out sofa with two days park tickets (one park each day) for 1579 with taxes and all. Is this a good deal??? It seems expensive and since we were just there a year and a half ago....starting to 2nd guess myself. We are DO OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN....at WDW. However I am not so sure about Universal but it does sound interesting to stay onsite and use those special passes. I would welcome any advice. Our kids are 19, 16 and 11. Thanks

I think it just depends on how much you want to see of the rest of IOA and Universal. Plan for 1/2 of a day to see all of the Harry Potter area, and then go from there.

Then again it all depends on when you're planning to go. The crowds right now for this summer are unpredictable...the park could be packed solid all summer.

Sounds like good advice to me. :thumbsup2

Okay I looked back at what was at which park. We like IOA much better so I could see maybe doing that park. Maybe we will spend 2 nights instead of 3 and just get a one day ticket or the 1 day park to park. I have a feeling IOA will be packed all summer and the other US park will be lower crowds.

do i have this right?
3 adults, 2 kids, 3 days of tickets for a 3 night package deal.
18 and up is considered an adult with an additional $25 add on charge per night for a third adult in the room.

$1579 + taxes??

the military rate is a decent room rate for the most part.

i always book everything separate.
my best deals are booking a room with a discount of SS, AAA or APH.
i have the APH so don't need tickets.
but, when i was buying the ticket passes, i would buy thru AAA for the discount.

try to figure it out separately and then see if you can come out ahead from the package you booked.

you can always modify your booking from a package to room only.

We are thinking of going to Universal this year for the first time during our trip to disney. My kids are 8 and 11. Neither are big roller coaster fans but DS is a big Harry Potter fan. How many days at Universal would you suggest? We are thinking of commuting from CBR in case the kids don't like universal, we will have disney.

I would allow two full days and if you're going after WWoHP opens, you might want to consider an additional day.

The park tickets are for 2 days not 3. I guess I can call again and ask if they have military room only rates too. I have to see how much Universal Park passes are through our base here or Shades of Green. It might be cheaper.

I feel the same way about the Harry Potter section. I was so excited when I heard about it that we just HAD to go. My whole family loves Harry Potter.

But when I looked at it closer - it seems there is really not that much to it. A few rides, three broomsticks and a lot of shops.

We are going anyway - we've never been to universal so even if HP is not all that, we can see the rest of the park. I am excited to get a butterbear, less excited to try pumpkin juice but I'll try some anyway :)
