2nd Grade Spelling Words

I know exactly what you mean. My dd is so lost in spelling in second grade. Last year they did not have any spelling at all. We work so hard on the words and she still gets at least three words wrong a week. How do you teach a 7 year old how to spell? Any suggestions? I need help. The bigger problem here is that they skipped a whole year of work. The district has changed what every level will learn this year. My dd who is in second grade is now doing what the third graders did last year and skipped everything the second graders did last year. I think that she skipped learning how to spell the easy words and went right to the harder words. It is sure not working here.
