Trying to figure which day would be better to spend our second day at Disneyland--April 4 or 5? Better=less crowded. The Deluxe AP is blocked Saturday and Southern California select is blocked both days. I know this will be the start of a lot of spring breaks and the week before Easter. We are two parents, two kids. We bought Maxpass already and don't really care about ROTR too much.

I think you are splitting hairs, both days will be very busy.

Agreed that both will be very busy and the difference may not be discernible. If you don't have access to early entry that weekend though, then pick Sunday.

I’d say go Sunday. Yes, both days will be busy but Saturday is an EMH and if you don’t have that, even if you’re the first person in the park, there will still be 1,000 people ahead of you. Also, in my experience if you rope-drop on Sunday, you’ll have about two hours before crowds begin to get heavy. It seems that people like to sleep in on Sunday, less so on Saturdays.

Also take into account the new star wars ride. I haven't been to the parks since it opened, but it seems like the early morning hours are crowded on both Saturday and Sunday. So keep that in mind.

The Deluxe AP being blocked on Saturday does make a difference, though. If you really aren't interested in ROTR and don't have MM, it can still make for a better day at DL to have the Deluxe APs blocked. We go on most Saturdays and notice the difference when Deluxe is allowed in or not. The last two Sundays, from a ROTR standpoint, have been bad. The mornings have been packed and more APs were allowed in. Personally, I'd go with the Saturday, have MP and know how to use it, have a good strategy in place for my priorities, and reservations for any dining packages.
