2BR lock-off - can it truly lock?

Last time I stayed in a 2BR lock off, my family stayed in the 1BR and my sister's family stayed in the studio. All magic bands opened both sides though, which is fine because it was my sister.

However, if we are staying with people we know less, would it be possible to completely separate the rooms (so magic bands don't unlock both sides) for more privacy?

I know we could just book a 1BR and studio separate, but the problem is I already have it booked, and was expecting family to stay in the studio, but they can't go. So if I offer the studio side to another family that we don't know as well, I would like to be able to keep the rooms locked-off, not just from the middle door in the room, but from the front magic band access as well.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Pretty sure the only way you can do that is to book a 1 bedroom and a studio and hope they connect. The 2 BR Lockoff is simply a single room w/2 entry points in terms of how the system would see the reservation.

If booked as a 2 bedroom lock off, it is considered one room and they will be keyed the same. There is no way around that, except as mentioned already...to book them as a 1 bedroom and a studio, but then you have no idea if you will even connect because that is a request and not always possible.

It is also why booking the 2 bedroom is less points than when booking the 1 bedroom and studio...

Any chance member services will split it into two reservations for me then (the 1BR and the studio)? I will pay the extra points. I'm just kind of stuck since I already have the 2BR lock-off booked.

They won’t normally do that if there is not availability still for the individual Units.

It doesn’t hurt to call and ask. Then you will know for sure.
In the past member services have split off to a 1br OR a studio (downsizing), but folks have also have had this type of request turned down.
(And, I’m not privy to the surrounding circumstances in which the requests were approved. )

I would not be comfortable renting out the unused side to a stranger. In addition to access to your accommodations, they might have access to charging privileges on your account.

Charging privileges would come with adding a credit card. It's possible not to add your credit card but you give up going straight to your room and would have to actually check in when you get to your resort.

I've only started adding a card the last two trips just to get direct to room access. Otherwise I'm using my gift cards.
