Thats a long trailer for a Tahoe. Even though the weight is okay you still have a wheelbase issue. You could do it but I would make sure I got a top quality sway controller. I towed our 27' with a suburban and an Avalanche and it towed it OK. I moved up to a crew cab std box pickup and it was better.
Right. The hills may not be as big an issue as passing trucks or high winds on those flat roads. They can move a trailer around pretty good, and a larger wheel base tow vehicle will handle that better.
We use to have a Tahoe and pulled our 30'Ft TT but I would always be a little nervous with the swaying when a truck would pass us. We now have an F250 crew cab and now I don't think twice about pulling the trailer out somewhere while husband is at work. His comment now is it was worth it now I don't have to help set up I (wifey) have it all done when he gets there. It made a BIG differance it was like going from a junker to a caddie pulling the same Trailer just changed the tow vehicle.
Whatever you decide, definitely get sway control. We have a loooong Chevy Express pulling a 26' skamper and let me tell you, when those trucks pass you need to hold tight and pray, especially if they are going much faster than you. You will be pulled towards them and then pushed away. It is quite scary. I wound up in the middle lane in Atlanta being passed on both sides and almost had a horrible collision. Luckily the truck behind me to the passenger side saw what was happening and slowed down and signalled me to come on over. Praise the Lord for that man or we would have been road kill.
We are within our weight, but that is not the only factor you need to consider. We have an appt on Aug 7th for some service on our Skamper and sway control will be added at the same time.
Me personally I wouldn't pull a 29Ft with an SUV (Except Excursion). Just not enough wheelbase for that long a trailer. We pull our 29FT'er with an extended cab long bed pickup and the 18 wheelers still "move" us slightly even with a good equalizer hitch.
we had 28'TT with short wheelbase Astro and it was white knuckles all the time (even with sway control). It's like the tail wagging the dog everytime a truck passes or there's a good crosswind. Personally, I wouldn't do it..even if weight is right and dealer says you can. There is an equalizer hitch that says it totally prevents sway, but never tried it. We bought a Chevy 2500HD Diesel truck instead. Much better for towing.
