29" pullman and Delta

Im worried about my new luggage that is exactly 62"(all sides added up) Delta policy is:
Weigh 50 pounds (22.5 kg) or less.
Not exceed 62 inches when you total length plus width plus height.
They charge $100 if it goes over that.Should I risk it or just take it back to the store.I wasn't going to have it stuffed but no way do I want to pay the extra money.Has anyone used this size luggage without problem?

Return the bag. It's almost impossible to pack a bag that large without going over weight. Those bags made sense when the weight limit was 70 lbs. If you can't return the bag pack an empty duffel bag. You can transfer items if you're overweight.

Last year we had 26" luggage and on the way there we left plenty of room for things we bought. On the way home by some miracle we were exactly at 50lbs so no overage charge for each suitcase with all our items. I think the 26" is the biggest I would go just so you don't accidentally overpack. Like the previous poster stated you could put an extra bag inside and take stuff out if need be and maybe carry that bag on.

I'm not to worried about the weight because I will weigh it before we leave.It weighs 12 lb without anything in it and I'm just packing cloth in it.I'm worried about the measurement because it's just at 62" which is the limit.

Maybe I am not understanding something but you said your suitcase is 62" exactly. Then you said Delta's requirements are not to exceed 62". If your suitcase is 62" that would mean it does not exceed 62". So there is nothing to worry about size wise.

I know you are not worried about weight but you might want to pack it early with what you will bring with. You will be amazed at just how much clothes can weigh when the limit is 50 lbs.

62" includes the wheels. Your bag will oversized if you unzip the expansion zipper or if you over pack the bag.

I assume you're going to use the bag more then once. It is very hard to pack a bag this big without going over weight and it may be difficult fitting the bag into the trunk of a car. Finally you'll be stuck if an airline reduces the maximum size in the future.

I'd return the bag while you can.

edited to say I also don't understand your question. Based on your OP you already know the bag complies with Delta, on the basis of size.

Take it back! Delta told me I had to pay $125, $100 because it was oversized, and $25 for being overweight. The guy at the counter got out a yard stick at Savannah, not the most accurate measurement, and went from the floor up. I complained, but to no avail. I complained again at PIT, and the woman sympathized with me and refunded my money (by the way, it was not an issue flying out of PIT, only flying back). I posted here about it a few months ago. Regardless, I sold the suitcase at a yard sale this past weekend. It's not worth the risk of having to pay an extra $100 IMHO.

Return the bag. Even if you're just packing clothes, a 29 inch suitcase will ALWAYS run you over 50 lbs, unless you bring it empty. The last thing you want to do is argue with skycaps and ticket counter personnel when you're trying to catch a flight. We don't buy suitcases bigger than 26 inches, as it routinely hovers around 48 pounds full (not stuffed).

I totally agree with everyone else. In June I did the same thing, but to be safe I returned my 29" Pullman (that was SUPER cute, BTW) and got a 26" expandable 26" Pullman w/ the digital weight reader on it. Let me tell you that when expanded it holds ALOT! I only pretty packed it with most of my clothes and a few sandals. The suitcase itself was 13lbs and fully loaded was 38. Coming back I had a few heavier things in there and it was 41lbs. It's better to be safe than sorry. I am glad I followed everyone's advice.

And mine was also 62" all around. It was just so close that I didn't want to chance it. Thought I'd return it while I still could.

We have 29 and a 28" suitcase.

When we are done packing we step on the scale, and then my hubby steps on the scale w/ the suitcase. We make sure we are at least a few pounds under the 50lbs (in case our scale is off).

Depending on how many suitcases, or extras you bring for souvy's make sure to spread out your heavy items.

I agree with everyone else - this bag is too large for air travel these days. Get a smaller one.

My Dh read my post and came home and said its not a 29"pullman but a 32" pullman. It is in the car with the recite going back to the store this wkend and I'm going to get a 26" instead.Thanks for all the advise.

good move. we got smaller ones this time, figure better to take 2 each if we need them then one big one and go over weight.
