???????????????

I hate it. I say it occasionally without thinking. I try quietly to make my son understand that you are calling on God for a trivial matter. I'm not at all religious, but I just don't care for the way it sounds coming out of a child's mouth.

I don't make a big deal out of it, though. The less said, the better. And children learn best by example.

I do find it offensive & blastphemous. I feel the same why when people say JC or JHC or other little "clever" variants. :(

My son didn't use this phrase when he was little but I'm sure, that as an adult he uses it.

My mother did not allow me to use that, I could say oh my goodness, but not oh my God, and God help us if any of us said, "Jesus Christ!" when not praying.

I try really hard to say, "Oh my gosh!" When I type "OMG!" I mean, "Oh My Gosh", not "Oh My God!" I think there are very appropriate times to use the phrase. To me, it's like calling out for God to hear a prayer. Sometimes if something is so emotionally painful I might say, "Oh my God", or "God help us" something like that. I do the same when I think something is so wonderful or beautiful it takes your breath away. I don't think it's cursing to use the phrase. I do think it can be inappropriate. It's almost meaningless when said over and over again, arbitrarily, and to me, God is not meaningless.

With that being said, when I was being baptized, I had to stand with my arms crossed in front of me. The minister came up behind me to dunk me in the water. He kind of kneed the back of my knee to let me know to lean backwards. I leaned backwards, looked in the pastor's eyes and said, "Oh My God!" His eyes opened real wide, and his mouth hung open!   :teeth: To him, it must be a bad thing to say. :teeth:

This is just my opinion. To each, their own. :)

Don't feel badly about it. Everyone has different perceptions of what sounds right, wrong or appropriate.

I always feel like a real boob saying, "Oh my gosh" but I do it. Or, "Oh, my!"

Mostly I try not to say any of it. Makes it easier! LOL

When screamed in the heat of orgasmic passion, I see "OMG" as thanks toward the BIG GUY for allowing sexual delight. After all, he/she could have left us without the ability to experience pleasure while mating;) ;) ;) ;) .........

Hmmm, no I don't find it offensive at all.

I do think it sounds better when children use "oh my gosh" instead, though. But either way, I don't consider it swearing at all.

Nope. Don't see anything wrong with it.
Much better than saying "what the F?"

I don't like hearing it said, but I also don't consider it to be swearing.

I tend to agree with Jeff in BigD on this one.

I really don't see the need to say it, when there are so many other words in our vocabulary to use. The same goes for swearing. Why must people swear & use those disgusting words, when there are so many other far better words in our vocabulary that can be used & are not & are wasted.:(

I don't find it offensive, and probably say it at least once a day.

My sons say it because they hear me say it I suppose.

I would get in trouble as a kid if I said it. I think that's what people mean by "taking the Lord's name in vain," no? But I'm not religious, so it's just another phrase to me.

I find it offensive. It is SO overused too. On Big Brother and Survivor, it is said every other sentence it seems  ! I don't allow my children to say it nor do we.

We taught dd to say OMGoodness or gosh, So whenever you see OMG in my post , ya will know what it means;) I am not offended but I choose not to use the phrase..just MPO.

Don't really know why but I do find it inappropriate if it is used with a certain tone. It all depends on the situation but I don't like to hear it from kids just like I don't like to hear them swear.

I have said this since I was little. My folks were strict about "bad words" but this was allowed. Moving to TN I was making everyone go:eek: . Now, it is a habit. I'm trying to break it & it is so hard. DD doesn't like hearing me say it and calls me on it. I agree with Saffron's post. I think it is disrespectful to God.
DH's mother thinks God, gosh, lord or anything close is not good. We just had this come up in our Sunday school class 2 weeks ago. I was definitely in the minority using it. :(
