Hi C.Ann!

For US, anything that does not go into the recycle bins go into the regular trash.

:)

I guess it depends on your pickup service and their rules. Our city will take pretty much anything and everything you put on the curb (and recycling is voluntary, so if it's in the regular garbage, they take it just like anything else).

I agree that you put everything you don't recycle in the trash. Obviously, toxic things like paint and oil have to be disposed of properly, but everything else is just regular garbage.

On all plastic items there is a triangle and a number. Your provider should be able to tell you which numbers (kinds of plastic) they take. They will take normal household plastics but check for the numbers on toys and other unusual stuff.

The used printer ink cartiridges can be recycled at some stores where you buy them. Also, some schools collect them and recycle for money.

Your "paper" includes not only newspaper but food boxes, cardboard, paper towels and tissues.

In addition...we are a family of 5 and when we recycle and compost correctly we only have one garbage can at the street per week.

We have no recycling pickup but do have some big bins that we can carry stuff (newspapers, plastic) to.

In FL we used to have "trash" pickup twice a week, and yard waste and recycling once a week. Trash is everything you can not recyle. Yard waste is grass clippings, twigs, tree parts, etc.

Now in Indy we live in an apartment and must bring our garbage out to a compressor. We have no yard waste now, but we don't have recycling here either, so everything is trash.
