"Mickey's Toontown Fair Closing

The Magic Kingdom is beginning an expansion that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland. To make way for this transformation, Mickey's Toontown Fair will close February 12, 2011. Fantasyland construction will be completed in phases with most new attractions open by 2013."

I heard that Mickey and Minnie's houses will eventually be moved to another part of the park. Not sure if that is 100% true.

While I would like to hope that the actual houses will be preserved in some form, I'm afraid to hold my breath for it. From what I last read Mickey and Minnie will have their Meet and Greet at the former Exposition Hall on Main Street. But I wouldn't expect the actual Toontown houses to be there, although I am sure their sets will be very nicely themed.

And just to make clear, the last day to see Toon Town is Friday, February 11. It will be closed starting Saturday the 12

The houses are cute and all but I don't feel any special attachment to them. If they move 'em, they move 'em... and if they don't, they don't. Won't phase me either way.

However, my daughter loves the Barnstormer -- the 2-3 year closure will likely disappoint her a little, and when it reopens she'll probably be over it. She's already riding Big Thunder, and measuring herself regularly for the day she's tall enough for the other WDW coasters (43 inches... almost there).

As already mentioned, the final day to tour their homes in Toon Town is Feb 11th with the closing scheduled for Feb 12th.

They will be joining us on Main Street at Exposition Hall (which has/is still going through extensive renovations) for their meet and greets until the FLE is completed in early(?) 2013.

Rumor has it that Mickey and Minnie will be living in an apartment over Expo (similiar to the rest of our residents who live above various shops on Main Street) but whenever we inquire whether it will be a tourable attraction we get a rather uncommon "great rumor" response from our leadership. There has been ALOT of work done to the backside of Expo though, so I think we'll just have to wait and see. :)

I hope we'll get to see the apartment when they're done renovating the Expo Hall. It'll be nice to see where our favorite mice live.

Does this mean that Barnstormer is also closing on February 12? That would be awful -- right before President's Week. My son has been looking forward to it for two years.

Better get him used to the idea of riding Big Thunder Mountain, then.

He just reached 44 inches tall -- he's been measuring himself for the past year against this requirement to ride Space Mountain!

Unfortunatly, yes.

Toon Town will be closed starting 02/12/11. Big Thunder and Space Mountain are both fantastic alternatives, and he can begin looking forward to the Great Goofini (the rethemed Barn Stormer) set to open early 2013.

At 44" he would be able to ride everything at Magic Kingdom except the Tomorrowland Speedway solo. So he could enjoy Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Railroad. He could also enjoy all the rides offered at Epcot, as well as Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios and Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom.

Perhaps you can tell him that since Barn Stormers closed he can go on some more grown up rides. :thumbsup2

He won't need convincing to ride on the other coasters now that he's tall enough. Just a bit disappointed about the Barnstormer, but handled it fine when I told him last night.

Glad to hear it. Keep and eye out for the tallest guy on Main Street PAC and say Hi when you get here. :thumbsup2

Wait...hold on....stop the presses!

APARTMENT? As in SINGULAR?

You mean Mickey and Minnie either finally tied the knot OR they're shacking up??

Which is it? Inquiring minds (and the tabloids!) want to know?

:rotfl2:

This has been a point of contention, and I even dont know the answer to this one. Personally, I consider them married already if you take common-law into consideration. Besides, they already share the same last name.

We just realized that our youngest will be the only one who didn't get a picture in front of the Toontown sign and even more depressing, won't get to throw a fit when made to leave minnie's house. Crazy as it is, we have almost identical pictures, 7 yrs apart, of our 2 oldest having a meltdown on the sidewalk outside of minnie's house, sad we won't be ble to get the 3 rd. Although at the age of 22 mths I'm sure we'll catch a meltdown somewhere!!
