25pt addonitis use year question

Keep the same use year. Otherwise you will have two separate DVC accounts to log in to.

Keep looking, or for this small amount call up DVC and buy exactly what you need. No waiting. Points will load the day you call/buy.
This is not true. When you have 2 separate use years they are both accessible through the same login. They will be displayed via a drop down menu.

You just have to select which membership you're using when you go to book.

So the consensus is people would buy 25 BLT points direct? It’s just hard to swallow an extra $3000 from what the October contract would be. Maybe I’ll wait for a mythical December 25-50 point resale.
If you're going for lake view which has pretty easy availability most times of the year, I'd either go for value (SSR), diversify my home resort portfolio with a small add on at another resort where I might find the 11 month home resort priority useful or buy direct to match the use year. You can of course simply keep waiting as well

I have three UY, but they work well because each function on it own. I think you would find a small 25 point contract in a different UY.

You can’t borrow points when transferred, so you would need to be strategic in the transfer and time of trip.

IMO, $3k over the time you’d own, isn’t a lot vs, the ease of one UY.

Thank you for all of the replies! We actually considered buying direct, but the home resort is…..BLT. Talked to our guide yesterday, in fact, but I just can’t justify $275pp. The only two BLT Dec contracts I’m seeing right now are 160 points and a 25 pt that I don’t think is actually a real listing.

Getting 25-50 Dec AKL or SSR isn’t a terrible idea. I hadn’t thought about that. Especially because getting 2 bed lake at 7 months out isn’t too difficult.

When we purchased the contract, we intended to travel in December, but we’re now sort of forced into June for the foreseeable future. So not ideal, but not awful.

I also didn’t know that about the OTU points with two contracts, but that makes sense. Good to know.
The closing costs on a 25 point resale contract with title insurance are going to be astronomical…. and an absolute pain to deal with….

Either sell your current contract and buy a bigger resale contract, buy a larger resale contract as an add on in your UY and rent out points you don’t use, or just add on direct.

Funny thing is I have had the same question about the same UY and same resort. LOL. Thanks for asking! I am not in the market for a small add on yet, but surprised how infrequently BLT December UY are sold resale. I suspect my add on strategy would be subsidized Aulani. I saw one recently in my UY but I am not ready for it yet.

Good logic Astro. Spot on as always.

We own 160 points, but having an additional 25 would give us a lot more flexibility. Right now we’re able to book 6 nights in a preferred view 2 bedroom, every other year, but 25 more points would give us 7 nights plus some extra flex points.

Finding a 25 pt contract in the right use year is like prospecting oil. We currently have a Dec use year. There’s an Oct use year 25 pt on the market. How miserable would this make our lives?

If I’m understanding the mechanics correctly, transferring points/using transferred points/booking across two memberships would all require a call to member services. We wouldn’t be booking a high demand room type, so I don’t think that would be a big issue, but it would definitely be less convenient than being able to do everything online.

If you were me: put an offer on the Oct contract or keep searching for a Dec contract?
Sorry for derailing your thread with dining questions. For 25 points, I can't imagine the cost difference between resale and direct would be *that* big, depending on the resort. If you'd consider a small, direct add-on, I imagine you could get your points right away in your same UY.
I wouldn't do it, personally.
If you can swing it, a 50pt contract may be much easier to come by.
Agreed. I would just wait for your UY, and maybe look for anything under 60pts.

Just committed to buy 25 transfer points so that solves my issue for this trip :rolleyes1
Lol don't tell Disney when you're on the phone with them that you paid for transfer points since that's technically not allowed
What are transfer points??

There is a website (maybe more than one?) that owners can list points for transfer instead of for rent. https://www.dvcstore.com/transfer.cfm
I'm surprised they have that even as an option on www.dvcstore.com for the reasons I said above
So they are listings that you can just swap with someone.. one time per UY?

FYI (a little off topic), i just transferred by own 25 from June to Sept AKV. Now the option to sell that one is on the table, but i'm just not sure if i should hold it until i book my trip in case i need the extra to borrow from. :)

I wasn't technically in the market this February, but I had an idea that I'd add on another 25 direct since, as you say, 25 point December use year BLT contracts don't come up that often. Then, I looked at direct pricing... That led me to looking for a 50 point resale, which would have cost less than a direct 25 point contract. Or, maybe I could find a 75 point resale, for just a little more money. Then, after watching for a few days, a "Cinderella" contract showed up. BLT, December use year, 125 points at $110/point, and FULLY loaded. It did cost me double what I was expecting to spend this year, but I justified it by the fact that I could rent out those banked and current year points and reduce the difference between the 50-75 point resale and the 125 point resale to almost nothing. Of course, I didn't rent the points out. I'm using them for a multi-week stay next January.

Nicely done! Glad it worked out for you.

I always admire folks than can plan/budget DVC stays alternate years. We stated out that way but ended up adding points for more frequent and larger room stays.
