I had a surprise Disney trip when I was 9 and it was great. Now, at age 17, I'm the one that does the planning. I would still like a surprise but I'd miss my planning! That really is half the fun! I'd like to be surprised a few weeks in advance. It would be cool if my mom booked the trip and surprised me with it. But a few weeks in advance I could still do some planning

Well, I ahven't been surprised so I don't know for usre but it might be fun. However, we surprised our kids once. We had surprised them before with smaller trips and they loved it. So we surpried them half way to Disney (we had told them we were going to grandma and grandpas.) They loved the surprise but the trip seemed to sail by unlike others and after when we asked if they liked it they said they missed the planning and anticipation, and I did too. So we won't ever do it again.
I love the planning, but one surprise might be nice too.

I hate being surprised. My dh would be very flustered by the notion - I don't think he'd even be able to fathom it. He is famous for saying "well, I wasn't planning on it...." whenever you ask him a question so we all know to give him warning about everything. My kids would hate it even more.

The only way any of us could handle that kind of surprise is if only the destination was suprise, not the timing. We're all fairly flexible in vacation style, but we like to make sure everything at home goes according to plan and leaving takes some planning. We have way too many commitments to just dump everything and go.
