We are leaving Nov1st I really really really want to lose about 25 lbs before we leave. Does anyone know how much weight you need to lose to drop a size. I am 5'9 I am wearing an 18. Wolud love to fit into a 16 .I tried on the 16 they button and zip, but looks bad and very uncomfaortable. ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!

My target areas, Stomach(4 kids) hips and thighs!!!

P.S I am recovering from breaking both of my ankles in July, so NO RUNNING and NO POWER WALKING!!!!

Well I know it's possible.I started South Beach July 12 and of Aug 31 I had lost 27 lbs. But I do have to say I have been doing a lot of exercise! And have been very diligent to the "diet". Not one cheat. Maybe if you had access to a pool you could do most of your exercise where you weren't putting any stress on your injured ankles. (maybe bicycle too)
As for the size thing I don't think it's any amount in particular, because a lot of exercising, weights can sculpt your body while "stalling" the pound loss. So far with my loss I've dropped 1-1 1/2 sizes; it's so hard to tell with different brands running different sizes. HTH
Good Luck!!!
Need more help, this board is an awesome place to come!

Feelslikeadream (I love the name!) Is it doable? Yes, it is. You are looking at trying to lose 3 pounds per week. That's all. But it won't be easy. There are a lot of things that you would HAVE to do in order to be able to succeed. You would have to be totally committed to your diet and exercise plan. I know you said that you are recovering from two broken ankles so some cardio is out. That's ok. Cardio can be listed as just about any activity that you do that causes you to get your heart rate up and makes you sweat. Now as far as your diet, you have to be focused. Grilled meats, lots of vegetables, and tons of water. No breads, sweets, fried foods or sugary drinks. Think about everything that you are taking in and ask yourself, "Are these empty calories or are they healthy calories?". It's not easy but it can be done.

Whenever I need a "quick" fix, I use a detox plan. The theory is that your liver gets all clogged up w/ toxins and doesn't work in your favor; if you detox your liver, it actually helps w/ the weight loss. The plan I use is the "Fat Flush" plan, but I know there are others. Good luck!

Yes, I agree, South Beach is a pretty quick fix. I noticed a difference in how my clothes fit just after the initial 2 weeks. Watch your sodium intake, and all junk food out of the house! It's a great time to take advantage of fruits and veggies. BIG salads are great right now. You can do it, or at least make a dent in it my then. Also, as someone mentioned, weight training is key!! Buy a set of 5 lbs. weights and you can start working the arm muscles, and do squats, lunges, etc. Muscle will burn the fat while you are asleep and speed up your metabolism. I also got a great ab workout from Shape. (I got it at Target) It's great. Each session is only 5 minutes long, so it doesn't take up much time. There are 4 different types of ab work you can do. I did this EVERY day before our Disney Cruise and it really made a difference. (Although I'm kicking myself because I haven't done it once since we've been back since Aug.) Also, a QUICK fix that worked for me. After having my baby, 21mos ago, I never adjusted my alignment. I'd be walking by a window and it really looked like my butt was sticking WAAAYY out. Well, it was. I got home and checked in the mirror, and I was still arching my back...stomach jutting out, and butt sticking out. What you do is just pull your pelvis forward. You'll feel your ab muscles tighten at the top. You just need to focus on doing this all the time. Maybe everyone doesn't have this problem, but it sure made a difference in how big my stomach looked.

Good luck!

how does detoxing your liver help with weight loss????????????
I have never heard of this before

I don't remember the specifics - but that is essentially the theory of this diet called the "Fat Flush Plan" - that your liver is supposed to aid in your metabolism, but we clog it up so much w/ stuff that it doesn't work in our favor anymore. I'd never heard of it either, but it worked for me and for several of my friends. There's a lot of info about it on the web, if you google it.
