24hrs Drive from Toronto - WDW Straight

Any one got some advice for some one doing this drive alone in three weeks.

This blog is perfect timing. We are heading out August 20th from Toronto and driving straight through and have been debating which route to take. After reading the blog I think we are definitely going to do the one you suggested. This will be mine and my kids first trip to Disney but my fiance and his son have been before. I'm really excited. He thinks this is a one shot deal but I'm hoping to convince him otherwise lol :rolleyes1

We have only done the I-79 route and always leave on a Friday or Saturday around 5am. Wife loves Savannah so we spend the night there. I see a lot of other members use I-75. What recommendations on route travel for May to early Oct route travel is we leave at 4pm from Mississauga. only DW and I in the car.

@bankr63 It would appear that your next trip in March 2015 syncs up with ours too. We will be starting that drive at about 1pm Friday, March 13th.

Hope to see you on the open road.

Well, I expect we will be a few hours ahead of you, and a few miles east of you. We'll cast off as early as possible Friday morning so we can make the deep south before stopping for an overnight rest. Last leg will be timed to get us to our condo around 4:00 PM Saturday. We are I-81/I-95 route, with the cutover route between the two selected based on road conditions and weather. I do most of the driving still, but DW will take over if needed (she hates driving my big SUV).

If you see a big medium-blue Traverse with Disney Family and Lime Green Mickey magnet on the back, that's me. Be sure to wave. Of course there will be hundreds of Ontario plates on the road that day, but maybe we'll pass...

WOW! Doing the 2o plus hour drive straight by yourself... is crazy... I would recommend taking I75. if you have to stop to rest a bit, I recommend only stopping at official rest stops along I75. If stopping during the evening, they have a State Trooper parked there to ensure safety.

Good luck!

Regardless of time of year we always stick to I75. It works best for us as per our blog post.

Best of luck on your drive.

Great blog. Being from windsor our trip is about 4-5h less than yours. I have only flown one in my over 10+ trips to orlando. We have left the past 2x around 3pm and we miss the traffic in every big city on the way down 75. Yes we might hit Toledo at 5pm but it is usually not bad. I would recommend driving to anyone I know. Great thing about leaving late and driving us the family sleeps which means less stops for the annoying "I have to go the the bathroom line". I do understand the issue about arriving b4 your room is ready. But I u squally let the wife drive from the Florida welcome centre to the first service center after leaving 75 towards orlando. Which gives me a little power nap. We arrive I. Orlando around 11am and hit some local outlet malls before checking in. We NEVER EVER drive straight to disney. Too eager to visit the park and being too tired will affect the first day excitement. Always checking in on the 2nd at 8am to hit park opening.

Hello all,

For those following this thread, we will be doing our 24 drive tomorrow (August 21) from Toronto, Ontario Canada to WDW. I cannot count how times we have done the drive however this will be the first time we are leaving at 8pm.

The drive should be interesting because we will be both working the full day, getting home, quick bit to eat, pack the car and we should be off.

We will be crossing over to the US at Detroit/Windsor and taking I75 straight.

We plan on posting to twitter and Facebook along the way. If we see something interesting, we may take a quick picture and post to Instagram. If you like to follow our journey and see how we fair on this drive, please feel free to follow us on any one of our social media accounts. Links can be found in our signature.

Will definitly follow your trip. Just found out we have to postpone our Sept. trip, by a couple of weeks, for health reasons. It will be fun to follow someone else's Disney trip!!! Looking at the bright side, in a month or so I will have a new trip to plan :cool1:
Have a safe and magical trip ;)
