...

OK, DS is turning 6 in June. I asked him what type of Birthday Party he wants and he says Bowling. Great. So... background first and then questions...

We usually have his parties at a park or the house, last year was at the house. I usually spend atleast 200-300 on these parties by the time we buy food, decorations, etc. Up until now, we have only invited close family and it's usually 15-20 people.

So, now, DS has friends and our siblings have more kids, plus 2 more spouses, etc. We are looking at a guest list of about 35, and that's only with inviting his 3 closest friends and their parents... the rest is immediate family (our parents, grandparents, siblings and their families).

So, out of that 35, there are only 10 kids. Do we pay for EVERYONE to bowl and eat? Or just the kids, and then the adults pay for their own bowling if they want? I checked all my local alley's and it looks like it will cost about $500 to pay for all 35 people to bowl for 2 hours and get ONE piece of crappy cheese pizza and some soda. :confused3 Each alley told me that people usually just pay for the kids and the parents pay for their own... this just doesn't seem proper to me... but I admit have NO IDEA what proper etiquette is concerning this and Google is FAILING me right now, LOL. :surfweb:

Technically, yes, we can afford the $500, but I REALLY don't want to spend that much on two hours of bowling, KWIM? We are leaving the day after the party for a week long trip to Niagara Falls and blowing $500 on a party right before we leave just stinks! Plus we are getting him a child-size guitar for his birthday present (only one from us) which is going to be $100...

So, I'm curious to know what the dis-ers think....
we are running into that this year too
we have decided to do aclassmates kids only party at a (I am not sure yet place)lol
then the regular cake and hotdog BBQ at our house for family and close friends

Her birthday is the last day of school
so we will do the kids party the weekend before and the friends party about a week or so later
