Checked in for my flight (SW) at the exact second I could 24 hrs prior and my boarding group is B 7-14....I don't get how our numbers start at 7 and not one...was there someone sitting at their computer like I was? Not that it's important was just curious.

Early birds can go into B, they are not just A. B1-B6 could be early birds. I checked in on my last flight at exactly 24 hours to almost the second and got B17.

yes of course there are others siting at their computer to check in exactly at 24hrs just like you.
why wouldn't there be?

you also have to consider early bird check in passengers.

A1-A15 is for business select passengers, then there's early bird passengers (which, as PP said) can easily run into the B group. So getting B7-B14 means you were really, really close to the front of the regular-passenger pack.

I checked in at the 24 hour mark too - I got A58, A59, B9, B11. Strange how we got split so far apart. Anyways, does anyone have any insight as my husband and I were issued the A58, A59 slots but my boys ages 2 & 4 got B9 &B11. Do you think we will need to forfeit our A spots and do family boarding? or because we are so close to the end could we let the A60 person go ahead of us and go on together at the end of the A group?

I will kindly ask the SW staff at the airport but just wondering if anyone has any insight.

Who knows what happened?

You can either all board with the highest boarding number (B11) or just all board during family boarding (if it is offered). Or you and one child can board with the A boarding passes and husband and one child can board with the B passes.

I'm almost positive that when a group gets split like this, you can all board with the first ticket (A58 in this case).

Nope, sorry. I was wrong.

Here's what the Southwest web site says in their boarding FAQ:

SWA Web Site said:
Can groups assigned to different boarding positions board together?

Yes. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the boarding process, we ask that earlier boarding positions board with the later positions. For example, if a passenger is assigned position A16 and wants to board with a passenger assigned position A45, the passenger holding the A16 boarding pass should board with the A45 passenger.

Thanks - for your replies.

I figure the reason is that everyone is trying to check in at the 24 hour mark and the server works as fast as it can and there were a few people who scooted in between us. :)

I think we may do Adult & Child for A group and then Adult & Child for family Boarding if offered. They would probably be right behind us anyways as we would be the last of the A group.

Not a big deal - if we can sit together it would be great so the littles can watch a movie but not the end of the world if we split up 2 and 2.
I know not buying ebci is a gamble but then again, a lot of times people are getting B anyways. I did buy it for the way back so I don't have to worry about checking in.

If there are passengers who are connecting to your flight from another flight they get to check in for their connecting flight at the time they check in for their original flight. For example say you are flying on a 1000 flight from BWI you would check in at 1000 the day before. For those passengers taking a 0700 flight from MHT and are connecting to the 1000 BWI flight they would be able to check in at 0700 the day before and would get boarding cards for their 0700 MHT flight and their 1000 BWI flight at the same time.
