The rest of my family has EBCI for our Southwest flight from Midway to MCO. I opted not to buy it for my DS, 4 and myself as I plan on boarding when they let the families of 4 and under get on. Do I still need to do the 24 hour online check in or is it automatic with the 4 yr old that I will board after the A's?

There's no guarantee that they will do family boarding between the A and B groups. While family boarding is done in most cases, if there are a large number of families with small children the gate agent can decide not to do it.

I'd suggest going ahead and doing the 24 hour check in if at all possible. There's a good chance you will wind up with A boarding numbers anyway and they you can board ahead of the family boarding group.

WN could decided not to do Family Boarding, so have your fellow travelers save you a seat if required.

You have to do an on-line check-in within 24 hours to obtain a boarding pass for both of you.
