I know that canceling an ADR is supposed to happen 24 hours in advance, but I've read that you can up until midnight the day before - is that true?

And what are the usual places that require 48 hours? Dining packages?

There is no "24 hour" or "48 hour" policy. There is a "one day" and "two day" policy. You must cancel prior to midnight.
