24 hour event

Not sure if this was posted, but I was reading in Theme Park Tourist that it has been cancelled. Here is a snippet:

One of the most popular events at Disney parks in recent years has been the 24 hour day. Begun in 2012 as a limited-time “one more Disney day” promotion (celebrating the extra day during 2012's leap year), this celebration went on to become quite the fan favorite at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, with guests showing up every year to check out exclusive merchandise, enjoy unique entertainment and of course party all night long at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom.

However, much to the chagrin of fans who enjoyed this annual tradition, it looks like Disney will not be holding this event this spring, at neither Disneyland Resort nor Walt Disney World. While Disney hasn’t officially commented about why they cancelled this event, there are several reasons why a 24 hour day at Disney just wasn’t possible in 2016.

Not surprised, since WDW has been cutting back on CM's and lots of other things of late. They probably don't have the staff to handle it.

For it to be cancelled, they first would have had to announce that they were having it this year. Which they didn't. Guess the time limit was up last year. As mentioned above, this is no surprise given the cutbacks in park hours and staffing.

They did a leap day thing in 2012. Not this year. There's all kinds of things Disney is choosing to not do.

I think it was a logistical nightmare and cost a couple bucks more...

The reality is that to staff a park from 12-9 am without major merch or food sales is pointless to the operation.

No surprise.
Last years at WDW was quite disappointing compared to previous two May events.
Just another Frozen theme, limited merchandise and all "special" food also available at DHS ... so pointless.
Minimal extra characters, dance events etc.
It really was no more than a longer EMH.
Decided then not to do again.
No surprise they did too.
I imagine the cost of staying open all night staff etc wise FAR outweighed any money made those hours.

Bottom line is they have way too much on their plate in that time frame right now with
AK, Epcot and DHS projects - why drag MK into the chaos and more $$ lost.

Budget cuts, don't have CM to handle a 24 hr open park It's really like 36 hours of being open. 9 AM TO 9 AM is 24 hours. Then open to 9 PM is 36 hrs.

The Disneyland event was a disaster to. I arrived at 4 am to a packed main street. They had sold out of most 24 hr event merch before the event even started. Massive crowds I believe overwhelmed the cms and I believe no one was prepared at all. I was looking forward to a redo event. So I could get to experience both parks without having to worry about not being able to get back in. Hopefully they will bring it back next year.
