And as usual, these folks seem to forget that we see each other often enough to know that the "newsletter" and the "facts" of their lives don't jive.. How embarrassing..

Although I'm not a fan of these Christmas newsletters, I'm hoping I at least get one or two funny ones - that are "meant" to be funny..

Every year I say I'm going to write one. Then I sit down, start thinking about what to say and then just give up. Somehow I just can't convince myself that everyone wants the gory details of my lfie.

Actually last year I got so sick of sending the same old Christmas newspapers to people I didn't really know well, so I added a little shockers. I got called up three days later asking if I was serious about joining a motorcycle gang.

This year I am going to be the gang of the "Poison Needles" (Hey they don't know it is just a sewing circle) (jk..or am I?)

We just received our card from in the in-laws and there was NO letter. There's always a letter, and it usually makes DH and I look at each other and go 'Gosh, we're a lot more interesting on paper'.
MIL always puts loooong updates on every kid in her letter, it's kind of fun to see her spin on what we've done this year.

I love the Christmas newsletters I receive. It's a great way to keep up with old friends who live out of state that I rarely see. I have never received one that I felt "stretched the truth".

I have never sent a Christmas newsletter but I love receiving them, especially the ones with pictures of their families and pets.

I love Christmas letters. I am very disapointed when I open a card from someone I haven't seen all year and there's just a name. No need to lie, no need to brag, but I'd love to know what your kids are up to.

We don't send Christmas greeting to people we see regularly. If we did so, there would certainly be no need for a letter.

IMO Christmas letters are a great way to keep track of cousins, past college roommates etc. - people you don't see regularly, but still care for. I love to know that their kids are graduating, they've switched careers, someone's having a baby, etc.

I like getting the letters but there are two that make me cringe every time. One who has 4 adult children who are all so "fabulous and amazing and awesome" (repeat those words about 100 times per holiday letter!). Let's be real shall we...? The other is from an older couple who have no kids...not even a dog. Their letter is a gem with details of colonoscopies and the date their pants were hemmed. About 2 years ago I only got halfway thru before I decided to stop after reading about how they finally found a fix for their elderly mother's constipation.

I like the Christmas letter, but I agree, it really is pointless to send it to people you see all the time.

I did it one year. Thought about it this year, but honestly, nothing exciting has gone on in our life or changed so I'm not sure what I'd write. So I think I'm going to pass.

I'm like you. I like them and they help me keep up with the families as their kids grow and have their own families. I did a brief one years ago, when lots changed in our family's lives (a couple births, moving, a wedding, a death) and I just didn't want to write it all out in several personal cards, but I'm afraid I"m not creative enough to do it more than once.
I've only had one person send one that I guess could be called a bragging one, but I didn't really mind. I was still glad to get caught up on the news.

Years ago, dh and I received a Christmas letter from his Aunt. Along with all the fabulous things they did, included was the information that the daughter (my dh's age, so she wasn't a young teen) had "decided to take on the joys and challenges of being a single parent".

Only Aunt Mary could come up such classy words for her daughter getting pregnant. I was totally impressed.

Okay I love the newsletters! BUT I have to laugh at one from DH's aunt who writes 3 pages, small type, with every month listed at least 1 paragraph of her life with her DH and her grown married DD (and DH) with no kids (GC).

If it takes more than 1 page and no pictures you are writing TOO MUCH!

One year we had friends send one out that detailed their "tour of the courts of Eastern Massachusetts." 2 teenaged boys and one crazy summer!

You know, maybe if the ones I got were actually funny I wouldn't mind them so much. The content leaves something to be desired. They aren't even interesting. My cousin is due any day with her first, but her pregnancy took up all of 2 sentences on a page long letter. What did I get to read about instead? Her husband's numerous military related training trips.
