Black dogs and also Brindle's are tough ones to get out, too - brindle especially in Pit Bulls (it's just what people associate with "attack dogs")

Charley is....white. :)

Brindles look creepy to me-they remind me of hyenas :lmao:

Here is our vicious, mean black dog:

That was probably my thread.

I posted that our local humane society waived all fees for people on Black Friday willing to adopt a black/dark furred animal.

..

No - it was someplace kind of local - here in upstate NY - and I just thought it was the oddest thing I had ever heard - especially the dogs.. I "suppose" I could understand certain people being superstitious about black cats (certainly not me though) and I've never heard of this whole "ritual" aspect in regards to black pets..:confused3

Black dog - black cat - I think they're both gorgeous.. It's sad..:(

Several shelters did this on "BLACK Friday" for "BLACK Pets". I thought it was a cute idea.

I own a big, scary-looking, lab-maybe-mixed-with-pit, black dog.

<---That's him. Max.

We got him when he was a little puppy. I don't know what his brothers and sisters looked like, but he was the last one in a litter of eight to be adopted.

It's hard to photograph him. To get that picture, my son filmed him with his Flip video camera and pulled out that frame.

Max just turned 7 years old, and his chin is becoming whiter as the years go by. When we got him, more than a couple of people commented to us that we were very kind to adopt him because his looks would make him hard to adopt. I didn't know what they meant at the time because he was a very cute puppy.

His black fur is a problem because he sheds a lot, and if I don't vaccuum daily, black tumbleweeds roll through my house. My main bathroom has a white tile floor, and his fur makes a mess in there.

We don't call him "Max the Mighty Wonder Dog" for nothing! He's smart as a whip, worships his family, and loves other dogs. We found him, but I feel like he was born to become our pet because other than the shedding issue, he is the perfect dog for my family. :)

My dog (below) is a black lab/chow mix. I had another dog that died a few years ago that was a black doberman/shepard mix.

I've heard many times about the difficulty that shelters have with black dog (and cat) adoptions. Personally, I don't care what color the dog is, but rather if we bond when I play with them/hold them/etc.

Don't remember if it was this week or last week, but there was an "Adopt A Pet" clinic held somewhere in this area with drastically reduced fees for only black dogs and black cats..:confused3

I thought that was really odd.. They were saying that some people didn't like to adopt black cats because they were superstitious - don't know what the reasoning was behind the dogs..

What color are your dogs and cats?

I've never had a black dog - although I wouldn't be opposed to one - and in our family (my mom; myself; my DD; DD's MIL; etc.) we have always adopted "black" cats..

Do you have any issues with black dogs or black cats? :confused3

one of our dogs is black. both of our cats are black, with a little white, they are "tuxedos", our other cat that passed away was completely black.

our vet said the tuxedo cats have the best personalities, don't know if thats true or not.

I have heard that black dogs are harder to adopt out, because people think they look "mean."

our black dog came to us as a stray, she was roaming our neighborhood, we think someone dumped her. but she did look mean to me at first.........LOL
but she is the sweetest most loving dog!

There was one around here. I think it was more to capitalize on the "Black Friday" hysteria than to place black pets. Most likely, all colored pets were available.

This is what I first thought when I opened this thread, that it was just a sales/adoption gimmick. But after reading some of the posts, wow, I had no idea that black dogs and cats were on the bottom of the pet totem pole! I certainly don't feel that way, it never crossed my mind to think about the color of a pet.

I've heard this before, as well. And I can tell you Charley is dog friendly with all dogs - however initially he is much more leery (best word I could think of) of black dogs. And I heard it's the for the same reason.

I used to swear that our previous lab (yellow) did not like black dogs. Maybe I was right.
